(1)How to send a Alarm SMS from ADAM-4581 to Mobile Device

Step1. Check ADAM-4581 Status with Hyper Terminal

Connect the ADAM-4581 Port 1 and PC with a crossed null modem and set the correct baud rate, data bit and parity check and flow control as follow : 9600, N, 8, 1 with none flow control. Reset (Power Off and On) ADAM-4581 and you can see the following message in HyperTerminal Monitor.

When you see the “GSM Initial Complete!!” message, it mean the ADAM-4581 is ready for configuration.

Step2. Configure ADAM-4581 with Advantech ADAM-4581 Utility

Configure the “Communication Parameters” first. Input the Device ID for identification. Select the Interface for Port 1 of ADAM-4581.

With the item 3 in above photo, please leave the default and do not modify them, otherwise the communication will fail.

Step3. Configure Alarm setting

Setting the DI event trigger and SMS1/SMS2 and the message you want to send to the mobile device.

Step4. Select the CommPort to download the setting value.

Select the CommPort which you use to connect to ADAM-4581.

Note: The serial port for ADAM-4581 is only for download setting value, you can’t send the command thru the serial port. It means ADAM-4581 doesn’t support AT command.

Step5. Save the Configuration value.

Save the configuration value to file before you download the setting to ADAM-4581.

When you see the status shows “Save OK!!”, you can download the setting value to ADAM-4581.

Step6. Change the Mode to on-line Program

Change ADAM-4581 mode from “OFF-line” mode to “On-line Program”. In this moment, ADAM-4581 will ready for downloading the setting values from ADAM-4581 Utility. You should power off and on to reset the ADAM-4581.

After the power off and on is processed, you can see the GSM show “Please Download!!”. Click on the “Download” button at this moment.

Step7. Download Complete

After the download process is done, ADAM-4581 will reset and you can see it from the GSM status. The message from GSM field is similar to the Hyper Terminal. System will check the status until the GSM and Signal check ok.

Step8. Trigger the DI event.

After the system is ready, try to trigger the DI event. You can see the SMS will send to the mobile device that you assign the step3.

Trouble Shooting

(Q)Why my ADAM-4581 not ready?

(A)Check the following issue:

  1. If the SIM card is setting the PIN Lock at the startup? If yes, try to remove it and try again.
  2. Check if the SIM card is correctly inserted in to the SIM socket of ADAM-4581.
  3. Check if the signal is too low, try to check the signal and correct it. The signal should be continued well and ADAM-4581 will be work normally.

(Q)Why my ADAM-4581 can’t send SMS?

(A)Check the following issue:

  1. Check with your service provider, if the SMS function is active. Try to active the service and try again.
  2. Check if the service center number is wrong in your SIM card.
  3. Check the SMS sending process with your local service provider. Different country will have the different setting, number and dial process.
