1. Unacceptable - performance which can no longer be accepted from the employee in the particular job in question.

2. Poor -performance below long term acceptability but may be expected from a newcomer to the job. Not acceptable as a rating for more than one year.

3. Limited Acceptable - performance which comes close to being acceptable but is in need of improvement.

4. Standard - fully acceptable performance, entirely satisfactory over a long period. Fulfils the requirements of the job.

5. Superior - performance equating to that expected of a seasoned and experienced employee which is noticeably better than acceptable and which has been sustained over the whole review period.

6. Outstanding - reserved for those few individuals whose distinguished performance is clearly obvious to all.
