NAME

The name of the organization shall be the District Advisory Committee, hereinafter referred to as the Committee. /

PURPOSE

The Committee shall serve as an advisory body of the Consolidated Categorical Aid Programs, in accordance with the Federal and State regulations, for:
  1. the community in utilizing and coordinating its resources in a concerted attack on the educational problems of the students eligible for the Programs;
  2. schools in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Programs;
  3. individuals in proposing amendments or additions to the Programs; and
  4. the Superintendent and the Garvey Board of Education.

MEMBERSHIP

Section 1 – Number

A unit on the Committee is defined as a school site or the community within the district. A unit shall consist of no more than three (3) school representatives from each of the ten (10) school sites and no more than three (3) committee elected community representatives. Hereinafter these representatives shall be referred to as members. /

The majority of the members of the Committee shall be school representatives elected by members of the School Advisory Committee (SAC), no later than November 15. The majority of such persons shall be parents or guardians of children in the Programs. In the event that a member is unable to attend a meeting, he/she shall inform the parent involvement staff at his/her school or in the Learning Support Services Office of the absence. Reminders shall be sent to members who are absent for two (2) consecutive meetings without prior notification. Any member who is absent from three (3) consecutive meetings without prior notification or without a valid reason, may be asked to resign. The Secretary shall take minutes of the meetings, both regular and special, and shall promptly turn them in to the Learning Support Services Office for translation into major languages represented in the community and for dissemination. He/she shall perform such other duties as from time to time may be assigned to him/her by the Chairperson or the Committee. /

V / COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES
