Jesus on Trial and Peter’s Denial
(Matthew 26:57-27:11; Mark 14:53-15:15; Luke 22:54-23:25; John 18:12-19:16)
Main Point: Without God’s power, it is impossible to do God’s will.
Key Verse: I pray that (the Father) will use His glorious riches to make you strong. May His Holy Spirit give you His power deep down inside you. - Ephesians 3:16
Materials: Picture of dynamite - before and after shots
A large piece of chart paper or a white board with markers to make a list
God’s Glorious Riches verse cards and teacher sheet
Personal Application:
- Say: DYNAMITE! What happens when you light the fuse on a stick of dynamite? It blows up! There’s a lot of power in a stick of dynamite! Did you know that when the book of Ephesians was written by Paul, he used the Greek word dynamis (the original word that we get dynamite from) to describe the strength of the Holy Spirit’s power inside of all believers? WOW! That’s a lot of power inside of Christians! Why do you think we need so much power from the Holy Spirit? (Answers may vary.)
- In this world, we are going to face many difficult situations where we need to be strong, but when we believe in Jesus, we don’t have to face these problems all by ourselves. God promised us that He would use His amazing resources and His glorious riches to make us strong! That is an amazing promise. Let’s take a look at that promise in Ephesians 3:16. Have a child read Ephesians 3:16
Hands on Application:
- Say: That really is a wonderful promise that God gave us, but what do you think some of His glorious riches might be? Let’s take a look at some other verses and see if we can jot down some of our ideas.
- Pass out Student verse cards. Have different students read their cards and discuss some of the glorious riches God has given to us to help make us strong. You may use your teacher sheet to help get their thinking started.
Group Discussion:
- Say: Take a look at our list that we made. Think of a tough time that you used one of these riches that God has given to you to make you strong. Leader, feel free to share from your own experiences, too!
- Say: Every time we use God’s riches and rely on the Holy Spirit to help us, it is like lighting the fuse on the dynamite! You can’t help but be filled with God’s power when you rely on Him! Can you think of a situation you or another friend might face this week where you or your friend might need to be strong? Take one of the verses home this week that you think will help you the most and memorize it. It will be like a match to help light up God’s power within you!
Conversation with God (Prayer):
Pray that your students will be strong in God’s power this week. Fill in prayer journal and close in prayer.
