FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I apply for funding to do a return to practice course?

No – The fund states that all applicants need to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Does the fund cover backfill?

No - The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship opportunities to support educational and development opportunities which inform nursing, midwifery or community and health practice. Under conditions of the Fund there is no flexibility to provide backfill costs.

Does the fund support the costs of completing a degree or undertaking CPD?

Yes - The Fund will support a maximum of 2 modules as long as these can be completed with the timeframe of the award. I.e. one year from the funds being awarded. Applicants also need to clearly demonstrate how this learning will benefit patient and service user care.

Does the application cover costs for more than one person?

Under the terms of the fund there cannotbe a collective applicationfor funding. If thereis a need for group funding, then each person must submit their applications separately and they will be judged as individual applications and awarded on merit. The Disbursement Group cannot guarantee that each individual application will be successful.

Could you provide more detail on the Risk Assessment required in the application form?

Detailed guidance is provided in Note 9 of the ‘Scholarship Information for Candidates’.

I am currently not working in a healthcare setting I wondered if you could please tell me if I would be eligible for the award?

The Fund is open to any registered nurse or midwife working in Scotland in any careor health education setting. Applicants must however demonstrate in their applications how the development opportunity will benefit patient and service user care.

No – The application form and consent form both need to be signed manually. A signed copy of the application form and consent form should be submitted to the GNC Fund Project Team via one of the following ways:
