A design using fresh cut A.V. blossoms. Accessories, backdrops are optional.
31. BUBBLE BOWL."SPRING MADNESS" - An underwater design, using marine bowl, brandy snifter, etc. using A.V. blossom(s) and live material. Accessories optional.
32. BLOSSOM ARRANGEMENT "EASTER IS COMING!" A small A.V. blossom arrangement. No larger than 12" x 16"
33. SMALL BLOSSOM ARRANGEMENT "A NEW SEASON" A very small A.V. blossom arrangement - may be displayed in a shadow box (approx. 6"H x5"W x 4"D).
NOTE: Where niches and miniature boxes are used, entries are limited to available space.

SPECIAL EXHIBITS DIVISON - DESIGN DIVISION:
In this Division, the emphasis is on artistic design ability (as opposed to cultural perfection as in Horticulture). Plants, blossoms, etc. need not have been grown by exhibitor. 'Container Garden' classes may be divided by size, if more than one size of container entered; (i.e. large & small terrariums). Each container garden entry must be accompanied by a 3" x 5" white card listing all plant material used. Unlike horticulture shows which use large-flowered plants, the accessories & containers used in this Division tend to be more restrained in size and colour, in keeping with the delicate Star of the Show - the African violet. Accessories should be kept to a minimum. The theme can be inferred. In Design Division, rather than exact interpretation/depiction, it is enough that the components are not at odds with the 'type of' theme - delicate, harsh, light, dark, etc. although some interpretation can be helpful.
"Niches" are 3-sided enclosures approx. 22" high x 18" wide by 16" deep, usually with pastel coloured lining material (supplied by entrant) covering back portion. Designs usually rest on a "stand" (supplied by entrant) as part of design. Mechanics must be hidden.
The Miniature Arrangement is usually in a very small (up to 2" high) 'vase' or similar container with 1 or more A.V. blooms and line material.

DESIGN DIVISION RULES
1. Classes shall be open to all members of Oakville African Violet Society.
2. Exhibitors shall be limited to one entry in each design class. All entries must be originated and executed by the exhibitor.
3. African Violets MUST be emphasized. NO artificial plant material permitted. However, dried, treated, painted and colored plant material shall be allowed.
4. Accessories and draping shall be permitted in all classes except Dish gardens and Bowls.
5. No exhibit shall be removed after entry. Exhibitors shall replace spent blossoms with fresh ones only after the show is open (after the judging is completed).
6. Plants may be purchased at any time for the Design Exhibits, but all shall be disease and insect free [i.e. plants, blossoms, etc. need not have been grown by exhibitor].
7. Each container garden entry must be accompanied by a 3" x 5" white card listing all plant material used. Exhibitor's interpretation of the title may also be noted on the card.
8. Reservations for Classes 31 to 33 should be made with Show Chairman by set up time.
9. All design entries will be checked by the Classification Committee to ensure that they conform to the schedule.

HORTICULTURE RULES
1. All exhibitors must be members in good standing of Oakville African Violet Society. All Collection exhibitors must be members in good standing of AVSA and OAVS. The current AVSA Handbook for Exhibitors, Growers and Judges will be the authority in all cases not covered by a specific rule.
1A. "Rule 6" Since there is no commercial class, commercial members may enter any class.
2. Exhibitors must submit an Entries List to the Classification or Show Chairman prior to April 2, 2004 [set-up night]. All plants must be named, but are subject to correction by the Classification Committee. Last minute adjustments to individual lists may be made at Entry Time. [Some plants may not make it - others may surprise you and look good enough to enter at the last minute.] AVSA Master Variety Lists will be available for reference
3. Entry Books will be closed promptly at 9 p.m., April 2, 2004 late entries will be accepted FOR DISPLAY ONLY. This rule applies to both pre-entered and last minute entries. All exhibits must remain until the show closes on April 3, 2004. After entry, exhibits may be moved or touched only by personnel of Classification, Entries or Placement Committees. This rule does not apply to Design Division entries.
4. Reasonable protection will be provided, but all entries are made at the exhibitor's risk.
5. All exhibits will be merit judged, using the appropriate Scale of Points, as defined in the current AVSA Handbook for Exhibitors, Growers and Judges. Only Blue Ribbon exhibits will be eligible for special awards. Judging will start at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, April 3, 2004.
6. All judges will be AVSA JUDGES. DECISIONS OF JUDGES ARE FINAL.
7. Any number of plants may be entered in each class by an exhibitor, but only one plant of a particular variety may be entered in the same class. An exhibitor may, however, enter plants of the same variety in several classes, such as a Collection Class, unusual container class, and the appropriate color classes.
8. All entries must be disease and pest free, clean, and subject to inspection before entry. Collars, supports and grooming aids must be removed.
9. All African Violet exhibits must be in bloom, and must be single crowned, except for trailers and species.
10. All HORTICULTURE Entries must have been in the possession of, and grown by the exhibitor for at least three months prior to the show.
11. Containers in the HORTICULTURE DIVISION (except for classes exhibiting trailers, unusual containers, and gesneriads) must be green plastic, clean and free of all visible marks. The exhibitor's name and plant name should be affixed to the bottom of the pot. Protective covers are permitted for those gesneriads that require them.
12. A NOVICE is an exhibitor who has never before entered a plant and won a Blue Ribbon in a judged African Violet Show.
13. The Sweepstakes Award will be presented to the exhibitor winning most Blue Ribbons in the Horticulture Division, In the event of a tie, Red Ribbons will be counted, then White.
14. SALE of SHOW PLANTS: Members wishing to sell plants must submit a list of plants on Friday evening, April 2, 2004, indicating the Class they are in, and Prices, to the person in charge of sales. 20% of the selling price will go to the Oakville African Violet Society.
15. "Rule 12" An exhibit may not be altered or removed after judging until the show is closed except to replace blossoms in a design.
