Objectives/ Language Uses: Students will be able to: Describe locations; ask for help using the auxiliary “can”; explain personal preferences; ask and Answer How, What, and Where Questions
Materials:
* Kindergarten Unit 3 Manipulative Chart 2 Sing “Drive, Drive, Drive the Car”
* Rigby vocabulary picture cards (# 4-8; 3rd grade - Unit 7) (#6, 8 and 10; 2nd grade - Unit
2) (#8; 1stgrade - Unit 3) (#1,6; Kinder-Unit 1; #8; Kinder-Unit 6)
* Teacher-made People and PlacesMemory Game using Language Learning Masters Grade 1, Unit 3 TPR cards on page 23 and Language Learning Masters Grade K, Unit 3 TPR cards on page 39 (one set of all matching people (i.e. occupations) and places for each pair of students in the group)
* Rigby chant poster: Kindergarten, Unit 3, chant poster 2
* Rigby Newcomer book, “Riding” (Kinder Unit 8)
* Teacher-made transportation game board and TPR cards from pages 94-95 in Learning Language Masters Grade K
Monday
We do it:
* Kindergarten Unit 3 Manipulative Chart 2 Sing “Drive, Drive, Drive the Car”
* Review community people and places vocabulary picture cards
I do it:
* Teacher introduces and models People and PlacesMemory Gamethat will be played the following day (Instructions: Students pair up and lay out set of memory cards face down. Taking turns students try to turn over a community person (occupation) that matches a community place (i.e. a firefighter matches a fire station).
Tuesday
We do it:
* Introduce and sing Rigby chant poster: Kindergarten, Unit 3, chant poster 2
* Teacher reviews how to play People and PlacesMemory Game
* Students pair up and play game
* Sing Rigby chant again if time allows
Thursday
I do it:
* Read Rigby Newcomer book, “Riding” (Kinder Unit 8)
We do it:
* Teacher introduces and models transportation game from Rigby Kindergarten Language Learning Masters pages 94-95
You do it:
* Students play transportation game in small groups
Friday
You do it:
* Students play transportation game in small groups
** If time allows students can play a “charades” game where one student picks an occupation out of a bag and the group asks he/she “Where are you going?” and the student responds by saying “I am going to the ______” adding in the appropriate community place where he/she would be going to based on his/her occupation. After the student says this sentence, students in the group can raise their hands to guess what type of community worker the student is pretending to be.
