PTA Meeting Minutes for September 14, 2015
Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Jean at 7:00 PM
Review and approval of minutes: Jean stated May 2015 meeting minutes are approved as submitted (no motion/second needed).
Treasurer’s report: Karen reviewed the treasurer’s report, including receipts and disbursements since last PTA meeting (5/11/15), and Budget vs. Actual. Ending Current Balance as of 9/14/15 is $18,921.57. Karen proposed the following changes to the budget: Add $250 to budget for Student Incentives and $100 for Membership Rewards ($350 to come from excess HP volunteer revenue). Pay $550 accounting fees for audit and take $550 from RFE expenses. Increase socials revenue $500 and increase socials expenses by $350 and photocopies by $150. Also, decrease technology fund from $18k to $8k, and reapportion the remaining $10k to the principle’s fund. Karen made a motion to approve budget amendments, seconded by Dena Clare. Approved unanimously. $550 was paid to an accounting firm to perform an independent audit of the PTA books. Karen made a motion to approve the accountant’s report and accept it into the record. Lisa Rummell seconded. Approved unanimously.
Secretary’s report: No report.
Committee Reports
Assemblies: Chair Needed. 3-4 assemblies per year. $2,000 budget per year. The Brain Show is already scheduled. Lisa Rummell agreed to chair this committee.
Box Top for Education: Roxanne E., Chair. Due dates 10/31/15 and 2/28/16.
Dance/Socials: Chair Needed. Hoping to have one in Fall and one in Spring. If we cannot find a chair, or co-chairs, we will not be able to have socials for the students.
Eighth Grade Fun Day Gifts: Allison C., Chair. No report.
Eighth Grade Send Off Party: Beth M and Tina H, Co-Chairs. Last Friday of the school year is the party.
Fundraiser – Race for Education: Michelle S., Chair. Kickoff packet sent out last week. Race is Friday 10/30. This year’s goal is $20,000
Hersheypark Volunteers: Dena C., Chair. School receives $6 for each hour worked, and volunteer receives a voucher to get into the park for each 5-hour shift worked. Volunteers are now working in retail stores inside park, help with collecting $ at parking, and games. This has been a great fundraiser for the PTA. Volunteers are always needed. Friends, family, neighbors can all volunteer on behalf of the CDMS PTA. Need to be 18 years or older. Contact Dena for volunteers.
Hospitality: Tammy B., Chair. Sweet treat for 9/25 planned as “welcome back” to teachers.
Legislative: Jean K. Chair. Nothing to report.
Membership: Julie W., Chair. 200 members to date. 31% of teachers are members.
PAC: Jean K. and Beth M. Co-Chairs. Nothing to report.
Program Liaison: Jackie W., Chair. Mr. Patterson gets $50 for Quiz Bowl, Mrs. Garcia gets $50 for Math Counts. $250 goes to Mrs. Cather for the Musical.
Ram’s Make a Difference: Lynn K. and Maria W., Co-Chairs. No longer Caitlin Smiles committee. RMAD will now focus on other non-profit organizations, to be selected soon, which will not compete with anything else being done at CDMS.
Reflections: Bill M. & Claudia M., Co-Chairs. “Let Your Imagination Fly” is this year’s theme. Submissions due 10/16; award ceremony 12/16.
Restaurant Fundraisers: Dale K., Chair. – 10/12 – Chipotle Fundraiser
Scholarship: Kathy C., Chair. – Carson Kahoe last year’s winner – sent thank you email to last year’s PTA president and written thank you not to the PTA.
Sign Changer: Jackie W., Chair. Nothing to report.
Spirit Wear: Jackie W., Chair. – First round of orders were received, and more orders can be placed through school store (Mrs. Fox) and spirit wear can be available year-round through school store.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation: Chrissie K., Chair. Week of May 2-6, 2016
Volunteer Committee: Julie W., Chair. Working on volunteers getting clearances.
New Business:
Principal’s Report: Kids are loving new BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy and so are teachers. Looking forward to RFE. New school year is going smoothly.
