RE:STEM in the Community: A Family Event

Annville Elementary School

Dear Pharmacist,

Annville Elementary School Come to a FREE Family is hosting a Family STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Night showcasing STEM in the our Community Event to highlight community businesses, careers and endeavors that utilize use STEM skills and knowledge.

There will be hands - on activities for you to do together throughout the building. Some questions you can investigate include:

What variables affect the flight of a whirly bird helicopter? What properties make limestone an important resource in our community? How can we measure our heart rate? How does heart rate change with exercise? How does a 3D printer work? Conduct Food Science Tests and so much more!! There will be a variety of fun, hands-on things for you to do for all ages.

You can come for dinner with your family. Doors open at 5:30 PM.

The Nutrition Group will be offering a dinner menu: Hotdog/ hamburger, chips, veggies and drink for $3.00 and cookie for $.35.

The café will be open from 5:30-7:00.

When you arrive you will receive a list of the questions that you can explore as you visit the various rooms. Our goals are to help students and families become aware of how Science, Technology, Engineering and Math influence our lives and to engage students in learning experiences related to these fields. We need your help to make this event possible. Please consider partnering with us to provide this unique educational experience showcasing what you do.

As a business that utilizes STEM skills we invite you to participate in the STEM in the Community Event. There are many STEM areas that could be shared with the students and Forensics is a popular topic. We invite you to sponsor a room in which you conduct a hands-on activities related to chemicals or medicine.. I would be happy to help you plan this activity for the children. You would staff this station and share the activity (ies) you have planned. You could also share informational materials related to your profession.

We will be placing the lessons on the ACSD website as well as information about the related businesses.

I will be following up this request with a personal call in order to discuss how we can plan for your involvement in this educational event for the community. Thank you for your consideration and for your attention to this request. We hope that you will say yes and help us plan an exciting event for the students and families. We appreciate any cooperation you can give us.
