Martin Luther King Jr. Recognition Award

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Recognition Award honors Mines community members (faculty, staff, and students) who are exceptional in their appreciation for diversity and understanding of its value on the Mines campus. Recipients must meet one or more of the following criteria:
· Developed an innovative program, policy, or activity which has enhanced diversity within the unit, department, or program
· Contributed distinctively to fostering understanding and respect for diversity within the campus community
· Demonstrated a commitment to a philosophy of inclusion by initiating positive interactions between persons of different cultural backgrounds
· Demonstrated outstanding progress or achievement in one or more of the following areas:
o Campus Climate
o Broaden and Deepen Faculty Diversity
o Increase Female Student Enrollment
o Increase Underrepresented Minority Enrollment
Eligibility
All current faculty, staff, or students are eligible for this nomination.
Nomination Process
Nomination forms may be accessed electronically on the Human Resources home page, or picked up in the Office of Human Resources, 110 Guggenheim Hall. Please return nominations to Veronica Graves in the Office of Human Resources (). The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Award recipients will be selected by the MLK Day Planning Committee.
Award Presentation
The award will be presented during the Mines MLK, Jr. Community Luncheon on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. The recipient(s) will receive a plaque and a $500 award. For students, this award will be credited to their student account. For faculty and staff, the award will be issued as a check.

o Increased enrollment of students historically underrepresented in STEM, including but not limited to women, ethnic/ racial minorities, and First Generation students
