Appendix: Guidance Notes

This form is to be used in conjunction with the Missing From Home/Care Protocol and Flowchart. It is recommended that a Sexual Exploitation Risk Assessment Form screening is also undertaken to inform the identification of concerns/risks. The interview should take place within 72 hours of receipt of notification that the child / young person has returned.

Carrying out the interview

The young person can ask to be accompanied during the interview by a responsible adult of their choosing. The venue for the interview should be agreed with the young person. The following should be covered:

  1. Introductions and setting the scene
  2. Rapport building and putting young person at their ease
  3. The questions provided are prompts for the areas it would be useful to cover
  4. Following the interview, please refer the young person to the section at the end and ensure both the young person and yourself sign and date the form. Discuss and agree next steps with the young person

After the interview

The completed form should be discussed promptly with your supervisor to confirm next steps.

A copy of the form is to be sent to the Social Care Duty Administrator who will link it to CareFirst. Where the young person is known to the Youth Offending Service, it should be linked to ChildView. It should also be shared with any identified Lead Professional to take forward immediate actions identified. If there is no Lead Professional, the person carrying out the interview must ensure they are completed.
