Director of Social Justice & Inclusion

The Ethel Walker School is proud of it’s robust Social Justice Education and inclusion programs and seeks an energetic, experienced, and committed professional to lead and grow our curricular and co-curricular efforts. The Director of Social Justice and Inclusion will guide the School’s endeavors in this area by providing support and resources for staff and students from underrepresented populations and creating and implementing educational programs about diversity, identity and systems of inequality for the Walker’s community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with faculty, staff and administrators to strengthen Walker’s ability to create and maintain a culturally inclusive and respectful campus environment for all campus members.
  • Teach a 9th grade course focused on foundational understandings of systems of inequality.
  • Teach upper-level elective courses on topics related to oppression theory, gender studies, or race and ethnic studies.
  • Coordinate educational opportunities for the campus community focused on diversity, identity and social justice issues.
  • Advise student clubs and affinity groups such as the Black Student Union, Gender and Sexuality Alliance, Muslim Student Association, The Justice League, and International Student Organization.
  • Serve as the primary liaison, support, and advocate for international students and their unique needs.
  • Oversee program development and management of international exchanges and trips.
  • Coordinate support for ASSIST program students including recruitment and communication with host families.
  • Work with the Diversity Directors of the 10 other schools in the SPHERE consortium to plan and implement joint programs for students and staff.
  • Participate in all aspects of boarding school life through service as a faculty advisor, evening and weekend duty assignments, and other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Focus in sociology, gender studies, social justice education, or related field is preferred. Graduate degree or commensurate training/education preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the intersections of identity and systems of oppression.
  • Experience teaching about systems of inequality.
  • An understanding of and commitment to working collaboratively to maintain an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Significant successful experience working with diverse populations
  • A desire to help girls realize their potential.
  • Ability to take initiative, collaborate, and to manage multiple projects, and programs.
