Professional Association Leadership Alliance

On June 3, representatives from 17 professional associations met at the Michigan Community College Association Building in Lansing for the initial meeting of the MCCA Professional Association Leadership Alliance (PALA).

The purpose of the alliance is to improve communications among the various associations of community colleges administrators and also with MCCA. PALA will meet two time each year, prior to the MCCA fall and spring Board of Directors meetings. Two representatives from each professional association are encouraged to attend these meetings.

Topics discussed at the June 3 meeting included:

·  Michigan New Jobs Training Program (pending legislation)

·  Community College Baccalaureate Authority (pending legislation)

·  MCCLVC Strategic Plan – implementation activities

·  Achieving the Dream – grant-funded initiative

·  Breaking Through – grant-funded initiative

·  Issues of concern to professional associations

·  Organization and structure of professional associations

For those professional associations that have (or would like to have) a website for the association, MCCA will provide a link on the MCCA web site and, upon request, will host a website for the association.
