Geography End of Year Project

Throughout this year, no matter what region of the world we have studied, there are certain themes or general concepts that have been repeated because they apply across the whole world. As we reach the end of the school year, it is now time for you to show me, and the class, just exactly what you have learned.

The assignment is to create, and present to the class, a Powerpoint slide show that explains the key concept and provides specific examples of how this concept exists in most of the regions that we have covered throughout the school year. Specific details are listed below.

Each team will be assigned one key Geographic concept that they will research. Although each concept is different, the teams will produce a similar project:

- a “cover page” slide that shows the text of key concept and a picture that explains its overall meaning

- 2 to 4 slides explaining the concept, providing any necessary definitions or details

- 1 to 2 slides explaining how the concept applies specifically in EACH of the regions listed below:

- North America - Europe

- Latin America - Russia and the former Soviet Republics - choose ANY TWO regions of Asia - Africa

- Southwest - South - Australia and Oceania

- East - Southeast

- each slide must include:

- a title describing the main point of the slide

- information in a text box that is no smaller than 1/2 the size of the slide, including specific

details about the concept, using a large, readable text and font

- at least one picture that applies to the concept, no bigger than 1/2 the size of the slide

For example:

The partner team will present their project to the class in order to review the concept. Students will be graded individually in the areas of:

- overall knowledge in the subject (ability to present information with little “stumbling”)

- ability to answer questions from the class (or teacher) correctly

- level of preparedness (PPT completed and ready to use, knowledge of interesting “extra” details)
