Mr. Glasgow’s Classroom Procedures
1. Start of Class: When you come into class, sit in your assigned seat and get out your notebook and pencils. Do NOT mess with anything that is sitting at your table or on any other counter. Also, make sure to look at board for any announcements, directions, reminders, BELLRINGERS, etc.
2. Getting Class Attention: If you see the lights flick off and back on immediately OR hear an audible signal (music, bell, whistle), you are to immediately do the following:
- Stop what you are doing
- Turn and face me
- Silently listen for my instructions
3. Sharpening Pencils: You are to sharpen pencils BEFORE class begins. I encourage you to bring more than one pencil to class. If your pencil breaks during class, wait until I stop talking before you use the sharpener. Please don’t use the sharpener for colored pencils unless it is extremely necessary.
4. Questions: If you have a question about the material, please don’t hesitate to ask. However, before you do so, ask your group members first. If your group should then signal me by raising their hands (or putting a red cup out on your table) and wait for me to come to you. If you interrupt, you will be ignored. I promise that if you listen during class, 90% of your questions will be answered.
5. Tissues: You are encouraged to use tissues if you need them. However, you are to only take 1 at a time and may not leave the room to blow your nose. When we run out of tissues, we are out.
6. Class Dismissal: Bells were not designed for students. They were designed to let teachers know when to dismiss class. When the bell rings, DO NOT GET UP! When everyone is quiet and in their seat and the room has been picked up, I will dismiss you.
7. Cleanliness: The room should be left cleaner than it was when you found it. Your desk should be cleaned off and the area around your seat should be trash free before you are allowed to leave class. PLEASE don’t write on the tables or textbooks.
8. Visitors: If a visitor comes into the room or comes to the door to speak to me, you are to remain silent and continue working. This is not the time for talking or getting off task.
9. Walking down the hall: If we go somewhere else within the building, you are to walk in a straight line down the right side of the hall. I ask that you don’t talk when walking down the hall, so we don’t disrupt other classes. DO NOT peek into classrooms as we walk by.
10. Intercom: If you hear an announcement being made, you should immediately get quiet so I won’t miss out on something important.
11. Teacher out of classroom: If I have to step out of the classroom, you are to carry on with whatever assignment you are working on. NOONE should be out of their seat or talking.
12. Class Materials: You have all received a list of supplies needed for class. EACH DAY, you will need your notebook and pencil. I will allow you to use standard blue/black pens on work unless instructed otherwise.
13. Class work: You are expected to complete all assignments. You should always do the following:
- Listen to my instructions
- Read the directions
- Look for answers before asking for help
- Do your OWN work (copying is CHEATING)
14. Drills:
- Fire: Line up quietly and take a left out of the classroom. Walk down the hall and exit the building down the stairs. Immediately line up as a class in the second row of the parking lot silently so I can check roll.
- Tornado: Sit along the wall downstairs
15. Washing Hands: You may wash your hands at the sinks in the back of the classroom. Please use 1-2 paper towels to dry your hands and throw them in the trash when done. Do NOT waste soap or paper towels.
16. Passing in work: Gather any work that you are asked to turn in in one group stack and turn all papers the same direction. If I am collecting my numbered copies, put them in numerical order (1,2,3,4,5, etc)
17. Prohibited items: You are NOT allowed to eat or drink in class. The only exception is that I will allow water in the classroom if it is in a bottle with a cap. Obviously, if you bring in cell phones or radios, I will take them up and send them to the office unless we are using them for an academic activity.
18. Restroom Usage: GO BEFORE CLASS! If it is truly an emergency, wait till a calm moment and ask me. However, emergencies shouldn’t happen on a regular basis. If you go, you MUST sign-out and sign-in when you return. The pass is clipped to the clipboard. Failure to do so will result in classroom procedure changes.
