The Icetober-Horse Near Beer Tölt

In the grand tradition of Maryland Horse racing, whose rolling hills have seen such greats as Man O’ War, War Admiral, Secretariat and American Pharaoh now becomes home to a new breed of Horse Racing – The Icetober-Horse Near Beer Tölt.

What is an Icetober-Horse?

The Icetober-Horse is descended from Icelandic Horse which was developed in Iceland. Like the Icelandic horse they have a very smooth gait resembling the Icelandic Horses Tölt. They are however very different in appearance, and temperament – which can often be unpredictable.

What is the Near-Beer Tölt?

The Near Beer Tölt is a race to prove just how smooth the Icetober-Horse’s gait is. Riders Tölt around a track holding mugs of beer, the one who finishes first with the most beer left in the mug wins. Grand Prize for the Near Beer Tölt is a Custom Stein. For those racing there is an $18.00 registration fee, this covers the cost of Laser Etched Beer Mug that will be used. Any Mugs not needed for the Near Beer Tölt will be for sale for $25.00 each.

Where can I find an Icetober-Horse?

These are a very rare breed in the USA, many were left forgotten in attics and basements in the 1950’s but today they are making a comeback thanks to a dedicated group. You might be able to rescue one at Stateline Tack https://www.statelinetack.com/item/stick-horses/GBP13/ one was recently discovered collapsed on the floor at the Dollar General while others have been popping up on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/search?q=Hobby%20Horse If you can’t find an Icetober-Horse or trailering one in is too difficult, a small herd of Icetober-horses is stabled in the area and will be available for use. All riders will draw for their mount and pole position.

Best In Hand Shown Icetober-horse:

For those trailering in their Icetober-Horse, Stable and grooming area will be provided, crowd voting will determine the Award for Best in Hand Shown Icetober-Horse (read that as Best Decorated). All Icetober-Horses must have a name and a brief description of their story / pedigree and what their personalities are like.

Best Derby Day Bonnet:

As with all great races, Ladies Bonnets are a tradition – Best Bonnet (Ladies) / Chapeau (Gentleman) will awarded and determined by crowd voting. Derby Day Bonnets are surprisingly inexpensive via Amazon. Have fun getting creative with them – anything goes! Fascinators, Boaters, Derby’s Top Hats – Viking Helms.

Refreshments will be served in an “Infield Party” while viewing the race. This is an opportunity to be ridiculous – embrace it.
