April Book Report Project

For the month of April, students are to find an anthology of poems (book with several poems, not necessarily related; example Where the Sidewalk Ends). The book does not have to be on AR level, but is highly suggested, if possible. Book approval is by Thursday, April 14, 2016. Students have two options for their book report project, each worth 27 points. Due date is Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

Option #1: Sketch interpretation

The first option has three parts. In this option, after reading the book of poems, the student is to first choose at least 3 poems to try to interpret (describe what they mean). The first part is to include a copy of each of the poems (whether written copy, typed, or photocopied), make sure to include author’s name and the title of the poem. The second part of the project is to write a paragraph for each poem on what the poem means to you. The third part is to create a sketch/portrait of each poem on what you see from reading the poem. Any media can be used: crayons, paint, markers, etc. You may NOT trace or copy a picture if already one is given with the poem.

Option #2: Scuplture interpretation

The second option is very similar to option #1. There are three parts to this option as well. After reading the book of poems, the student is to first choose at least 3 poems to try to interpret (describe what they mean). The first part is to include a copy of each of the poems (whether written copy, typed, or photocopied), make sure to include author’s name. The second part of the project is to write a paragraph on each poem of what the poem means to you. The third part is to create a 3-D sculpture of something related to your favorite out of the three poems (only one sculpture, but must be at least 6 inches length, and 4 inches wide and 3 inches deep to count). Any media can be used: clay, food, play-doh, paper mache , etc. If using food, a note must be sent in by April 27th for approval.

***Bonus opportunity: If you complete one of the options above for a fourth poem, you have an opportunity of receiving an extra 9 points. This means that a student must have copies of four different poems, four paragraph interpretations of the poems, and either, four picture sketches, or two sculptures.
