Registration:

For proper registration please provide the following information to Jim Merriott at . In the subject line of the email please type “4-H Hunter Ed”.

  1. Legal spelling of your first name and last name and middle initial (if you have one)
  2. Legal date of birth (month, day, and year)
  3. Gender (male or female)
  4. Valid email address that you check frequently
  5. Physical mailing address (City, State and Zip Code)
  6. Valid phone number which you check frequently
  7. Ethnicity (Caucasian, Hispanic, African American…or you can prefer not to say)

Class Information:

This hunter education course will be offered October 27th and 28th. The class on October 27th will cover firearm anatomy, ethics and shoot/don’t shoot scenarios from 6 pm to 9 pm. Please arrive no later than 5:45 pm on October 27th for registration. This class will be held in the McKee Building at The Ranch, Loveland. We will promptly start the class at 6 pm. Jim has a short amount of time to cover the class material. Students who arrive after 6 pm will not be admitted into the class. The second day of class will begin at 9 am at the Front Range Gun Club in Loveland with the live fire testing. The second day of class will consist of hands on activities and a written test. Students are required to attend both class sessions. Class seating is limited to 45 students so register early.

Students must pass the live fire and written test before they can receive their hunter education certificate. The written test consists of 50 multiple choice questions written at the third to fourth grade reading level. Students must pass the written test with a minimum score of 74%. Students cannot use their student manuals or notes for the test. Retesting on the same day will be at the discretion of the instructor. If the student has a reading or learning disability the instructor can provide an oral version of the test.

Personal firearms will NOT be allowed at the range or in the classroom. If you have your own eye and ear protection for the live fire, you are welcome to bring them. If you do not have eye and ear protection we will have some for you to borrow. We will provide the firearms, ammunition and targets.

One parent or adult mentor is required to attend both classes for students under the age of 12. Students are required to provide their own means of transportation.

The following items will need to be brought to class the first night:

  1. Certificate showing successful completion of the hunter education class . Students who do not provide the proof of completion will NOT be admitted into the class. The online course has a fee of $13.
  2. Hunter Education Student Manual available at the Extension Office, Colorado Parks & Wildlife Office on Prospect, or at Cindy Buckardt’s Office Construction Supply House – 255 42nd Street SW Unit B in Loveland)
  3. $10 fee for the class if a check is written make it payable to Jim Merriott
  4. Pencil and Paper
  5. Snacks and Drinks if desired
  6. Positive Attitude
