As the course progresses, the instructor will cover operation and safety procedures of the equipment as necessary. The students must follow the Safety and Operation guide lines at all times that are implemented by OSHA-Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

No student will be allowed to work on any lab project while in the lab alone! For safety reasons while working in the lab, at least 2 students and instructor must be present at all times. All tools and equipment must be returned to proper storage area at end of class/lab. The instructor of that class will check tool boxes and table tops for tools left out before anyone starts work and is dismissed. The shop floor will be swept after every lab.

Safety Glasses will be worn in the lab at all times by Instructors and Students. If student or instructor wears prescription safety glasses, it must state that on the glasses. Also a letter from the optometrist is helpful. If the student is in multiple classes he/she must inform all instructors. If the student does not have a pair of Safety Glasses, the student must go to the Oakton Community College Book Store and purchase a pair before entering the lab. Safety glasses are not/will not to be supplied by the instructor. The Safety glasses can be purchased elsewhere, but must be at leastZ87 approved and have CLEAR lens not SMOKED, MIRRORED, or AMBER incolor.

The student understands the equipment used in the course is standard industrial grade equipment and must be used in accordance with OSHA standard safety rules and regulations.

The student understands that long shirts must be tucked in; long sleeves must be buttoned or rolled up, and long hair must be tucked in the back of the shirt. Chains or lanyards must be tucked in the shirt or pants pocket at all times while in class and lab.

The student understands the instructor has the right to remove a student from the class or lab for dangerous or unprofessional behavior.

The student understands that equipment in the lab when in use can shift. To prevent injury; make sure the work area is clear of other students or any other hazards.

If at any time a student notices a safety concern he/she must notify the instructor at once! This includes loose wires, hoses, equipment and any other safety concern.

The student must know where the MSDS-Material Data Safety Sheets are located in case of an emergency.

When vehicles are running in the lab, the exhaust system must be on. CO-Carbon Monoxide canKill!

I have read and understand this Syllabus and will abide by all safety rules. This copy of the Safety Policy will stay with the instructor.
