Students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree are required to complete a mathematics sequence which includes MATH 160 (Calculus) and a minimum of twelve (12) hours of upper division (300 level or higher) credits in mathematics or the sciences. Do you intend to earn a Bachelor of Arts or of Science?

The following applies to students on the 2011-2012 catalog. Please refer to the respective University Catalog () for previous catalog years.
A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is required for program acceptance, admittance, and graduation.
The minimum of 120 semester hours required for graduation must include: (a) completion of the University Core Curriculum; (b) the Advanced Study courses approved by the Interdisciplinary Studies Faculty Committee (30 credit hours at the 300-400 level); and (c) the Interdisciplinary Studies Program Foundation courses (6 credit hours).
Applicants must register for a minimum of 30 semester hours at the University after their application is approved by the Committee. (Note: A student who applies to the Interdisciplinary Studies Program after accumulating 90 semester hours of credit may be required by the University Committee to take more than 120 semester credit hours in order to complete an approved Interdisciplinary Studies program.)
To be considered for admission to the program, applications must include transcripts of all previous college/university work.
Students must receive a grade of C or better in ENGL 101, ENGL 390 or 459, and all major requirements.
A minimum grade of "C" must be earned in each course in the Advanced Study portion of the Academic Contract.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
In a detailed (typed) statement of purpose, provide the following information.
a)A description of how completing an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree at Coastal Carolina University will assist you in your academic pursuits and career goals.
b)An explanation of why a conventional degree is not being sought and why your proposed program of study is unique.
c)An explanation of the common thread that connects the two or more disciplines you expect to integrate into your academic plan.
STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: I fully understand that the Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies is an individualized program of study. I also understand that admission to the Program is neither automatic nor complete until my proposed academic program has been reviewed, revised, and approved by the Interdisciplinary Studies Faculty Committee.
After my program has been approved, I accept complete responsibility for the successful completion of all degree requirements. I also understand that I must obtain prior written approval from the Program Director for any MINOR modifications to my approved BAIS/BSIS academic program. Requests for MAJOR changes to my approved BAIS/BSIS program must be submitted to the Interdisciplinary Studies Faculty Committee for consideration.

No more than fifteen (15) credits from any one discipline may be included.No more than six (6) credits for courses numbered 399 may be used to fulfill Advanced Study requirements. You may also include a maximum of three (3) to twelve (12) credits for an Internship to fulfill your degree requirements. The student’s completed program (Advanced Study and Related Electives) must reflect a minimum of thirty-six (36) credit hours at the 300 level or higher. Related Electives are courses specifically related to major requirements as prerequisites or relevant to the overall program of study.
Note: A course can be used only once in the listing of 10 courses. Courses used to satisfy the University Core Curriculum cannot be used to satisfy a goal. UNIV 499 and ENGL 390 are program requirements and may not be used as Advanced Study courses.
