1. JOB DETAILS

Job Title: Communications Coordinator: Young People

Hours: Part time post (22.5 hours per week), with minimum one evening per week and occasional weekend/school holiday work as required by the programme.

Salary: Grade 5: £9,904 for a 22.5 hour week

(this equates to £16,287 per annum for a full time)

Location: Knowle West Media Centre

Access: There is wheelchair access.

2. JOB PURPOSE

To coordinate the delivery of Change Creators Leadership programme and support the development of the Young People’s Programme external profile with key stakeholders and the media.

·  A key role within the Young People’s Programme team, co-ordinating Change Creators: XLR the Collective creative leadership programme.

·  Leading programme communications with participants, volunteers, supporters and facilitators

·  Supporting programme participants with raising the profile of social action projects

·  Working with the KWMC Communications Officer to develop press campaigns, including press releases, articles, case studies, blogs, photo diaries and producing video content.

·  Supporting the wider youth programme team with marketing and promotion of programmes and key events

·  Assisting with generating web content and updating websites, including regularly updating all young people’s programme social media sites – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook

Accountable to the Project Manager (Young People and Music), KWMC Communications Officer and KWMC Trustees

4. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinating Change Creators: The XLR Collective

·  Taking overall responsibility for liaising with programme participants ensuring everyone knows what is happening, when and where

·  Taking responsibility for liaising directly with any partners, volunteers or facilitators, ensuring that all parties involved have the relevant resources for sessions/workshops: e.g. printing any documentation, sharing venue details, booking equipment etc.

·  Ensuring that participants out of pocket expenses are reimbursed in a timely manner

·  Inputting data and information collected from weekly sessions into the project database as part of the programme monitoring and evaluation process

·  Undertaking general project administration duties to enable the smooth running of the Change Creators programme

Media and Communications

Working with the KWMC Communications Officer to:

·  develop relevant branded materials/ resources, such as banners and flyers

·  ensure the website project pages are kept up to date with regular news stories

·  ensure all social media channels are live and actively promoting project success stories and activity e.g. using Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

·  ensure that all external documents are correctly branded and acknowledge the programme funders

·  ensure participant biographies and case studies are captured and promoted on the website project pages

·  develop a catalogue of project photographs and video clips for future promotional use and projects legacy

·  identify new opportunities to raise the Young People’s Programme profile

·  collaborate with KWMC’s Design Manager, Eight Manger and the wider team.

Special Projects

To work with the Project Manager (Young People and Music) and KWMC team to plan and deliver one off special projects.

Outreach work

Visiting youth centres, schools and other places where young people meet to promote media sessions that introduce young people to the projects and inform them of opportunities.

Monitoring/recordkeeping

Work in collaboration with the Front of House team the Project Manager (Young People and Music) and the Young People’s Programme Manager to ensure the KWMC database is regularly updated.

General

To represent KWMC and promote its charitable aims and objectives.

To attend and contribute to training or staff meetings as required.

To abide by all the policies and procedures of KWMC.

5. KEY RESULT AREAS

Change Creators: The XLR Collective is a recognised project throughout Bristol city – particularly with target groups and key Music Industry businesses and organisations.

Increased followers on relevant social media channels, and increased traffic to project pages on website and raise the profile of all Young People’s Programme activities

The Change Creators programme is delivered effectively with participants and delivery partners well informed of programme activity throughout.

6. COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This role requires the post holder to deal with a wide range of stakeholders, from external youth organisations including schools and colleges, colleagues delivering other services within KWMC, and local communities. A key part of the job role is to ensure all parties are informed, consulted and supportive of the development of the Change Creators Programme.

Person Specification: Communications Coordinator

Skills and Abilities

·  Ability to write press releases, case studies and articles/blogs for a variety of audiences
·  Ability to produce quality photographs/ video / radio content
·  Ability to produce correspondance emails with a wide range stakeholders
·  Ability to develop and sustain excellent working relationships with a wide range of people, including some young people.
·  Good time management and organisational skills in order to deliver projects on schedule and meet targets.
·  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·  Good written, verbal and IT communication skills.

·  Able to keep up to date records of work, and complete reports as required for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

Experience

·  Some experience of working in a busy communications environment or equivalent

·  Proven experience of delivering project work on time and to a good standard.

·  Experience of working in a team environment as well as working independently

·  Experience of carrying out general administration duties

·  Experience of problem solving

Knowledge

·  Knowledge of the local music scene, including publications and events

·  Knowledge of Microsoft Office software in particular Word, Power Point and Excel

·  Knowledge of various social media platforms incl. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook

Personal attributes and other requirements

·  Prepared to undertake continued professional development.

·  Flexible and prepared to undertake outreach work, work evenings and occasional weekends.

Desirable

·  A qualification in media (music, photography, film, design, etc.)

·  Experience working with young people..

·  Experience of living or working in Bristol.
