Orange Coast College’s Career Services Department offers a variety of services to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) students, faculty and business community. The program provides assessment testing, career exploration, job placement, internships, job fairs, advisory board support, instructional support, grant support, course articulation, pathway days and marketing on campus. / What will students be able to think, know, do, or feel because of a given educational experience in a course or a program?

SLO #1 Students will be able to identify a career choice or major. / Students will complete a self-assessment of skills, strengths, and interests. / Students develop a career profile using resources in the Career Library. / 91 surveyed indicated knowledge of the Career Library as a Career Counseling class assignment. Moving forward the Career Library needs to focus efforts on better marketing and advertising of services to students on campus.
SL0 #2 Students will demonstrate understanding of workplace readiness skills through increased self- confidence, improved efficiency and performance and application of classroom theory to real life experience. / Students will define a career goal based on career exploration, interest inventories and past work-based learning experiences / Students complete required hours for credit. / Students earned between 1-4 units with a grade of “c” or better. Results: The program continues to grow and expand. Additional funds to support the increase would be beneficial
SLO #3 Students will obtain full or part-time employment. / Students and employers will assist the Job Placement Center in identifying the number of full and part-time employees hired.
Track the number of students using the Job Placement Center and number of students obtaining employment via the online job board. / Students participate in a resume workshop or individual session. / Results:
144 New Employers registered for the online job board; 184 jobs and internships were posted on the online job board; 194 new students registered for the online job board; 6,603 students viewed jobs on the online job board.
Additionally, 47 of 65 students participated in the online survey. The services most valued in our program are: Job Printouts

Computer Access. 67.4 % of students were extremely satisfied with the services and resource provided.
SLO#4 Career Services will support instructional programs through activities related to Perkins IC, Tech Prep and Advisory Committee functions. Examples of activities include: classroom assignments, advisory committee support, marketing CTE programs on and off campus; participation in pathway days, job fairs, career expos, and presentations. / Students will be able to identify CTE pathways and majors, search for jobs and careers, participate in work experience, obtain employment, and network. / Students gain understanding and knowledge of career resources provided by the community, alumni, and Career Services department. / Faculty evaluates Career Services on support of CTE instructional programs. Results: VTEA and Tech Prep has provided high school students with opportunities to explore Aviation Pilot Training, Professional Mariners, Allied Health and Architecture Pathways. Students are provided information and access to the campus, programs, registration and support services. Additional staff and resources would allow the department to expand the efforts.
