Job Title:Global Head ofProgrammes

Reporting to:International Director

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This is a key leadership role in the international team. The purpose of the position is to provide effective leadership, technical guidance, programme and management support to LCD’s programmes globally.The position is part of the international Senior Management team, and will be supporting with the overall management of the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Direction & Leadership

  • To build deep understanding and knowledge of current development trends and ensure the relevance of programmes, responding to changes in the external and operating environments and reflecting learning from other programmes.
  • To lead the planning, management and implementation of LCD’s inclusive development programmes, in accordance with LCD’s strategy and mission.
  • To ensure that programme partners and regional employees understand and apply financial management and control policies, including working within approved budgets to deliver on agreed priorities.
  • To develop and maintain tools, approaches and/or resources to support the implementation and management of projects.
  • To lead on the development of the annual work plan and priorities for programmes in support of the strategy; develop and monitor regional work plans.
  • To ensure rigorous and appropriate monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are in place to evidence the success of LCD’s inclusive development programmes and provide learning opportunities.

Team Leadership

  • To manage LCD’s programmes team based in the UK, supervise them and manage prioritisation and delivery of their work.
  • To manage LCD’s Regional Representatives based in Kenya, Zambia, Sierra Leone and India; supervise and manage prioritisation and delivery of their work.
  • To promote positive employee relations and a culture of high performance to ensure staff feel motivated and supported to perform to their potential.

Fundraising

  • Liaise with Fundraising Staff (UK and International), and take the lead on identifying sources of project funding and support the preparation of programme funding proposals. Ensure adequate donor reporting is provided by programmes offices.
  • To oversee relationships with institutional donors, including ensuring that the required reports and evaluations are provided to a high standard and on time.

Strategic Planning and cross-organisational learning

  • Work closely with the International Director and international SMT and contribute to LCD’s strategy and the development of business and resourcing plans.
  • Promote internal and external shared learning.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of organisation systems and policies.
  • Represent LCD at relevant national and international fora.
  • Other duties as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Educational Requirements

  • Educated to degree level in relevant discipline
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline desirable
  • Extensive experience of working in International Development
  • Experience in project cycle management ( project planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation )
  • Demonstrable experience in providing distance management support
  • Prior experience in working within disability sector desirable
  • Experience in providing technical and managerial support to international development programmes
  • Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with donors
  • Prior experience of capacity building for small organisations and partnership development desirable
  • Able to travel regularly as demanded by the position
  • Commitment to the values and ethos of LCD
