IOD-5 Business Proposal

This document will be used to assess the commercial potential and credibility of a proposed IOD mission. At this stage of the selection processthis document is intended as an executive summary, with a maximum of 250 words per section.We recommend the use of an annex structured as per the questions below to provide supporting or evidentiary information where required.

By submitting this proposal, you allow the Catapult to disclose this information to the IOD steering board for the purpose of assessing your proposal in the context of the IOD programme. The IOD steering board is comprised of Satellite Applications Catapult, STFC under NDA with Catapult as well as Innovate UK and UK Space Agency which will not be under NDA as government organisations.

  1. What is the business opportunity that this project addresses?

Describe the problem you are trying to solve. What is the need? Who are the customers?
  1. What is the size of this market?

What is the addressable market? How much do you think you could capture?
  1. How does your offering differ from the competition?

Please describe your USP/differentiator. What is innovative and how will you protect these innovations? Please list current and any emerging competitors.
  1. How are you going to demonstrate addressing your market using an IOD mission?

Briefly describe what it is you would like to do with an IOD mission – explain the mission and how the data will be utilised.
  1. Describe the value chain for your business idea and the associated entities that will be involved at each stage of the value chain during the IOD mission.

Identify who you expect to be involved in your demonstration mission from satellite to end user along the value chain. Are there any gaps that you would need support with for this mission? Will these entities be the same for the full service or are there plans to bring new entities in the value chain post-IOD?
  1. What traction has been made with the development of this as a commercial service? (e.g. customers, funding, technology breakthroughs, etc.)

  1. What is your route to market and how does IOD contribute to it?

How would an IOD mission enable or de-risk your long-term business plan? What are you plans post-IOD? What would you do without IOD?
  1. What are the commercial risks to project success?

Highlight key commercial risks, impact, and mitigation plans. What is the project’s risk management strategy? How would an IOD mission help mitigate these risks?
  1. List the relevant skills, experience and facilities you can access both to deliver the IOD demonstration service and deliver the full service post-IOD?
