Dear Parents/Carers

Please find below information regarding the delivery of Duke of Edinburgh at the TCR Hub this Summer. Any student in Year 9 and above can apply for a place on the award scheme. Meetings will be Mondays between 3:30pm and 5:00pm for Bronze and 5:00pm and 6:00pm for Silver. On Monday 3rd July we will run an initial meeting to discuss the award with students. Students will make their own way to meetings via School and Hub grounds each week.

There are 15 places on the Bronze award, for Year 9s and 15 places on the Silver award, for Year 10s and 11s. We also have 10 places for Teesdale Sixth Form students, either new or old to DofE. If we are oversubscribed we will be interviewing young people for a place. The Year 9 to 11 places will be offered to students from the other dale Schools and will not exclusively be for Teesdale School this year.

The Monday sessions will be for 8 weeks term time to do expedition training. There will also be one Saturday day walk - Date TBC.

Expedition dates are as follows:

Bronze Practice 14th and 15th August, Bronze Assessed 9th and 10th September.

Silver Practice 21st to 23rd July, Silver Assessed 18th to 20th August.

These dates cannot be changed however there may be an extra date in late September in case of bad weather.

The cost is £100 for enrolment, two expeditions, first aid certificate, weekly sessions. Teesdale School have kindly agreed to contribute a minimum of £30 to the cost of the award per student for new enrolments.

If students could register their interest at School reception by Friday 30th June we can provide our first session on Monday 3rd July to discuss the award with students. Parents/Carers will need to collect from the TCR Hub, Shaw Bank, Barnard Castle, DL12 8TD at 5:00pm on Monday 3rd July. The award is run by Teesdale Community Resources and Durham County Council. I will keep in touch with reception and collect the list from them on Friday 30th June. Students will need to register with their name, age, contact details eg, email address and phone number. We will use these details to contact students should the award be oversubscribed and invite for interviews.

If you wish to discuss the award with a member of staff you can contact either Rachel Tweddle or Wayne Collins at .

Kind Regards

Rachel Tweddle, CEO TCR Hub.
