JUNE/JULY 2010

NEWS FROM HEADQUARTERS:

Clocking in with our Chapters

IRD attendance totaled 2,385 - two-thirds of the total are Canadian. Set Your Sites on Harbour Lights was wonderful. Kudos to Myrna Bennett, her central committee and the many volunteers from throughout her provinces on a terrific event. Our winners are AWESOME!

There were less than twenty total responders to the Couples Retreat survey. Therefore, a Couples Retreat will not be pursued at this time.

There are 170 TOPS members and guests registered for the TOPS "Unlock Your Potential" Cruise to the Panama Canal on Holland America Cruise Line in February, 2011 through Globetrotter Travel. If you have not registered through Globetrotter, you must pay $400.00 to TOPS Club, Inc. to participate in the TOPS Retreat sessions. Also, you will not receive any amenities and gifts provided by Globetrotter and will need to make your own arrangements for transportation to and from the ship.

Dates and theme for IRD 2011 are July 7-9, 2011. We are reviving the fun of the '50s when Esther Manz traveled the streets of Milwaukee in her little car with her scale in a shopping bag starting chapters. Milwaukee is the hometown of the Cunninghams and the Fonz as well as Laverne and Shirley

ANNOUNCEMENTS: DATE CHANGE!!!

OUR FALL RALLY DATE IS NOW OCTOBER 30, 2010

Each year the urgency to collect more non-perishable food stuff for families in need in our communities. We all know that donating is a voluntary gesture but I think that is it imperative that we all play a vital part in this effort. So, I would ask for each member attending our Fall Rally to bring (please do not forget) a non-perishable food item. ‘EACH ONE BRING ONE’!

Our Special Bags:

for the raffle; Dear chapters, we're asking that you prepare a gift bag with "magic" tricks to make it easier for us to lose weight and become healthier. This is an effort that all of our area captains in the state is encouraging. Note: Our State Coordinator is calling this a ‘bag’ rather than a basket. So, be creative.

MAKE YOUR OUR KIND OF MAGIC…

SRD was Fantastic! NC TOPS lost 16102 pounds in 2010 166 of 173 chapters reporting.

I’m so excited to report that 2010 SRD was a big success. CONGRATS, to our division and royalty winners in 2009. You are the success stories both at the chapter level as well as the state and international level and example of what TOPS can do and an inspiration to us all! Much Appreciation!!

A song from our songbook:
TOPS & KOPS
( May be sung to the tune of “Reuben & Rachel”)
TOPS sings:
KOPS, KOPS, I’ve been thinking
What a grand thing it would be
If these pounds would all just vanish
Down in to the deep blue sea.
KOPS sings:
TOPS, TOPS, you know better
Things don’t come so easily
You must watch those daily portions
And drink water faithfully.
TOPS sings:
KOPS, KOPS, what a nuisance!
Why can’t we just take a pill
Watch the pounds drop off so neatly
While we sleep, or just sit still?
KOPS sings:
TOPS, TOPS, that’s no answer
Pills don’t help us change our ways
We must eat less, be more active
To keep weight off all our days
TOPS sings:
KOPS, KOPS, why not speed up
With a rapid weight-loss plan?
Then we’d all be finished losing
And could eat our fill again.
KOPS sings:
TOPS, TOPS, Here’s our lesson:
We must change our daily style
Live the things we know are helping
Or the weight will surely pile.
ALL sing:
Yes, we know although they’re tempting
Easy ways don’t work for TOPS.
Just be patient, watch the calorie,
Then we’ll all be happy KOPS!

1. Hold special summer contest for all members(not included in Summer Achievements)

2. Review progress of Summer Achievement Contests weekly.

Our AC 2010 Program is being well taken by our chapters. Changing how we manage our stress changes how we control our weight.

It is our time. It’s time to learn how stress affects our time. The new 2010 TOPS Program to be presented by Area Captains. I now have this program and again, I am excited about the subject matter; “STRESS MANAGEMENT” Please contact me to present the program to your chapter. I’m sure you will glean a wealth of information from it. Let’s get started. ~dottie l. taylor, Area Captain

Water How 8 glasses a day keeps fat away ~ Incredible as it may seem, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take it for granted, water may be the only true ‘magic potion’ for permanent weight loss. ~ Donald S. Robertson, MD, M.Sc.

SPECIAL ALERT! It is urgent that you stay hydrated in this “extremely” hot weather!

TOPS’ mission is to support our members as they take off and keep off pounds sensibly.
