The Design and Social Context College

The College of Design and Social Context encompasses RMIT University's renowned art, communication, built environment, design, education and social science disciplines and is comprised of seven Schools. The College has 24,500 students and 1,000 staff.

School of Fashion and Textiles

The merging of all the fashion and textile programs within RMIT University into one new progressive School of Fashion and Textiles school has created an academic environment dedicated to transforming the landscape of Fashion and Textiles through the scholarship of change and active industry engagement. The School of Fashion and Textiles offers a diverse suite of programs over the spectrum of fashion and textile practices in design, technology and merchandising which strengthens the school’s ability to operate as a leading global player.

The school is centred on the Brunswick campus which has ‘state of the art facilities’ in conjunction with a fashion and textiles teaching and research centre positioned in the City campus supporting postgraduate programs and research projects. The resources, facilities and environments within the school of Fashion and Textiles are conducive to enabling student’s greater choice and opportunity so as to curate career pathways and provide for academic mapping that will reflect each individual student’s strengths. Position Summary

The Deputy Head, International is accountable for providing strategic leadership and management of the School’s international activity in the areas of international student recruitment, off shore programs, international education opportunities and work integrated learning, international curriculum and international academic partnerships.

The position involves innovating, facilitating and mentoring as well as strategic development and change management.

The Deputy Head, International is a member of the School executive team and is required to work collaboratively with all members of the School management team and with staff across the school to ensure that the School achieves its strategic objectives.

The position has a close working relationship with the Deputy Head VET and Deputy Head Fashion & Textiles.

It is expected that the time fraction for the leadership role will be approximately 60%. The other component of the role will comprise of teaching and/or research as agreed with the Dean of School.

Key Accountabilities

·  Lead the development and implementation of international strategies and initiatives for the School within the Context of the University and College plans and objectives.

·  Lead the generation of sustainable new international business both onshore and offshore and co-ordinate and interpret international market research and trend data to inform school decision making and strategy development.

·  Lead the development of commercial business which will provide income growth for the School including research opportunities.

·  Develop strategic alliances with international colleges and universities and where appropriate develop advanced standing exchange, academic or research partnerships and manage international delegation visits to the School.

·  Work with the Deputy Head, Research to identify and develop international research relationships and initiatives.

·  Work with the Deputy Head, Learning & Teaching to ensure the school is:

-  Compliant with all policy, regulations and legislative requirements as they affect all international activity, including ESOS and CRICOS and contract development and management; and

-  Delivering effective services and support to international students and work with programs and the University to improve the experience of international students.

·  Work with the School executive and academic and teaching staff to support and develop innovation approaches to internationalisation including student and staff mobility, curriculum and international commercial and research projects.

·  Maintain academic and professional standing and currency by engaging in a program of academic and professional activity and development.

·  Undertake teaching and research as appropriate and as negotiated with the Head of School.

·  Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate, network and build relationships within the organisation and with external stakeholders.

·  Commercial acumen and strong planning skills together with proven project management, team and stakeholder management skills.

·  Proven success in international engagement activities including the ability to represent the School in international forums.

·  Demonstrated commitment to, excellence and innovation in Learning & Teaching.

·  A strong record of achievement and significant professional standing in a field relevant to the School.

·  A strong commitment to industry and community engagement.

Qualifications

A PhD in a relevant discipline or demonstrated industry equivalence
