PURPOSE OF ROLE
Utilise your knowledge and experience to teach service users new skills, or help them to improve their abilities within your chosen field.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrange Classes
- Arrange classes for service users based on your skills and abilities. The below have been suggested by the service users, but if you have other skills you would like to teach they will gladly be considered:
- Computer classes
- Gardening skills
- Prepare equipment and materials in advance of the class taking place.
- Develop potential new learning activities alongside staff members and service users.
- Conduct activities
- Supervise and assist service users during the class. Some of our service users have more complex needs than others and may require additional one-to-one support.
- Ensure service users are engaging with the class safely, and addressing any risks or hazards that may arise.
- Provide adequate instruction at the start of, and throughout the class, taking in to account the communication requirements of service users.
- Record keeping/Staff Liaison
- Evaluate and keep a record of all activities you organise and undertake.
- Liaise briefly with the service manager or activity coordinator about the outcomes of each class.
- Keep staff members up to date on upcoming sessions.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Skills: /
- Expertise in the field in which you wish to instruct residents.
- People skills are required as a lot of direct interaction will take place with the service users.
- Able to manage individuals or groups of people undertaking a class.
- Previous teaching experience is desirable.
Qualities: /
- Enthusiastic about your field.
- Friendly and approachable – able to build a rapport with service users.
- Creative - Able to design fun, engaging and safe classes.

TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES BENEFITS TO VOLUNTEER
Training & Development: /
- Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults training will be provided.
- If there are any service users with particular needs (such as potential communication difficulties or challenging behaviour) you will be fully briefed on how the service works with this service user to accommodate those needs. Safeguarding vulnerable adults training will also be provided.
- If the class is to take place outside of a registered Livability service building training will be given on taking service users out in the community before the activity begins.
- Opportunities for additional training and development will be made available if they would enhance your ability to undertake the role.

DURATION AND TIME COMMITMENT
Livability would like to be able to offer a regular calendar of events to all of its service users, however we appreciate the need for flexibility with our volunteers.
As such we would ask that you try and commit to provide the activity or activities on a regular basis (preferably weekly or fortnightly) for as long as possible, even if the times and days of the week differ.
Continuation in this manner will of course depend on service user interest and uptake of the activity.
