ELECTRIFICATION WORKS CONTRACT
Performance bonds
Gateway provides through our Bank performance contract bonds for all our rural electrification construction projects. The bonds are valid for a year and cover any loss or damage to materials during construction.
Work programs
Prior to construction of the line, GCEA provides the employer with a program showing the general methods, arrangements, order and timing for all activities in the works.
Project management meetings
GCEA holds regular meetings with REA to review the plans for the remaining works. It is during these meetings that issues of variations (if any) of works and other pertinent issues are discussed.
Certificates of works
GCEA operates under the following terms of works; 30% payments receipts upon completion of the medium voltage line (HT),60% upon completion of the works(HT/LV) and commissioning of the project by Kenya Power & Lighting Engineers and finally the remaining 10% after the expiry of the defects liability period.
AFTER SERVICE SALES SERVICE AND PARTS REPLACEMENT
We provide a very efficient service and maintainance of all our projects within the six months defects liability period for powerline construction. For solar water heating and solar panels we provide twenty five (25yrs) warranty on our equipment (see our warranty certificate online).

Solar Water Heating Systems - Adding Value To Your Home
- Eco-friendly homes fetch more money on the property market and the demand for sustainable houses is constantly increasing. In fact, most new homes in Kenya today must now meet sustainability standards. For further details please visit our website; . By installing Solar water heating system in your home, you can make your house and institution more energy efficient and significantly increase its sustainability rating; in turn increasing its resale value.
Solar water heating projects:
- Installation of solar water heating systems in 22 individualresidential projects around Kenya.
- Design of Solar water heating systems for hotels and resorts.
- Supply and install 200L Solar water heating systems at Pine Wood City estate,Athi River 110 units (2012/13).
- Prepared a proposal for an integrated water heating system for the second largest Pharmaceutical firm in kenya.
- Prepared a proposal and design for installation of 69 solar water systems for Kenyatta National Hospital (largest referral hospital in Kenya).
Wind Energy Prefeasibility study:
- Contracted to do the Wind Pre-feasibility studies in Limuru,Kenya for ENBW (a power utility company in Germany.
- Contracted to carry out a Participatory rural private sector/community awareness activity for the local communities in Limuruto enlighten them on howthe joint partnership of the wind energy project with ENBW will work.
- ACHIEVEMENT
The Company was appointed as a contractor of the Rural Electrification Authority ( R.E.A ).
The Company accomplished the task to the satisfaction of both REA and Kenya Power and Lighting Company.
During their inspection of the power lines they noted that the workmanship was of very high standards and GCEA was awarded the position of the “Best Contractor of the Year 2010. The format of report writing that GCEA has developed has now been adopted by the Authority as a sample for other Contractors to emulate.

Rural Youth Development Program
After several years of working with the community in providing Rural electrification in various Countys, Gateway energy is establishing informationcenters that will be managed by selected community Youths. These centers will be used to disseminate informationfrom Gateway Nairobi offices through use of solar mobile phones and computers using the rural electrification powerline distribution appointed centers . The objective of this program is to assist inimproving the local communitiesquality of life. The centers will provide information on :
- Land use and environmental management- for farmers to understand weather patterns, climatechange, information on investment in crops and measures and process output
- Small and medium sized enterprises – Provide appropriate information on access of local and international markets and investment resources
- Health – information on adolescent health ,sexuality, preventative health care, curative medicine and common strategies for addressing these needs.
