A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND ALTON BEASLEY JEFFORDS OF LAMAR, SOUTH CAROLINA FOR HIS NUMEROUS AND VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE’S FARMING AND AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY.
Whereas, Alton Beasley Jeffords graduated from Lamar High School and Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy in 1969. He went on to complete his Masters Degree in Agricultural Education in 1975; and
Whereas, in the United States Army, he completed helicopter training and an armored advance course and served on active duty in Vietnam; and
Whereas, in 1992, Mr. Jeffords retired from twenty years of service in the South Carolina Army National Guard, during which time he completed over two thousand accidentfree flight hours; and
Whereas, Alton Jeffords worked for Clemson University in 1972 before joining Smith Douglas Fertilizer Company where he was employed until 1974; and
Whereas, Mr. Jeffords has been involved in agricultural education since 1975 when he joined the Darlington County School District. He has served as the Agricultural Mechanics Instructor at the Darlington Career Center and the Agricultural Teacher at Lamar High School; and
Whereas, working in agricultural education, Alton Jeffords developed an interesting and highly regarded agricultural education program for students in South Carolina; and
Whereas, he was a member of the task force that was instrumental in moving the control of agricultural education from the State Department of Education to Clemson University; and
Whereas, Alton Jeffords was the advisor for the Darlington Young Farmer Chapter, which has been consistently recognized as one of the most exceptional chapters in South Carolina, and he was recognized as the Outstanding Young Farmer Advisor in the State for 2000; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to recognize Alton Beasley Jeffords of Lamar for his outstanding contributions to improving and promoting agricultural education in South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Alton Beasley Jeffords of Lamar, South Carolina for his numerous and valuable contributions to the state’s Farming and Agricultural Industry.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Alton Beasley Jeffords of Lamar, South Carolina.
