“Dealing with changes when it comes to being physically active”
We will be focusing on the health-related fitness components and its effects on our body throughout the whole year as well as part of our Fitness Unit. We will discuss what the components are and how we can incorporate them into our daily activities and workouts. Looking at the health-related fitness components is a good indicator into our quality of life.
I will lead you through a variety of workouts during the school year concentrating on the specific concepts that encourage us to maintain physically active lifestyles. We will work in small groups hitting on each of the components during our workout time. By the end of our time dedicated to improving our fitness levels we will have an understanding of what it means to be a healthy, physically active person and how it applies to our lives.
Each of you will identify physical activities that are enjoyable to you that are also effective in improving each of the health-related physical fitness components. You will each take a look at the activities you are involved with at this point in your life and/or pick activities that you would like to be involved with and compare them with a physically active lifestyle. You will relate your lifestyle with the health-related fitness components and assess your activity needs.
Standard 4: Demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.
Concept 4.2: Identify appropriate physical activities that can be performed if one’s physical fitness program is disrupted by inclement weather, travel from home or school, or a minor injury.
Concept 4.3: Identify ways of increasing physical activity in routine daily activities.
There are five tasks to be completed for your WebQuest. Each part is to be complete by you and only you.
Part 1: Health-Related Components of Fitness
You must list and define all of the health-related components of fitness (There are 5).
Part 2: Discuss three activities in which you participate in now or activities in which you would like to participate in. (At least one paragraph for each activity you participate in. A paragraph is at least 8 sentences.)
In this section, you are going to describe the three different activities in which you participated in now or would like to participate in. You must include why you participate in these activities or why you chose these activities.
Please include how often you participate during each activity or would participate during each activity you chose (frequency), how hard you work during each activity or how hard you think you would work during each activity you chose (intensity), and how long you participate during each activity or would participate during each activity you chose (time).
Part 3: How can you change your activities due to disruptions from inclement weather, traveling from home or school, or even injury? (At least one paragraph. A paragraph is at least 8 sentences.)
In this section you are to make the necessary adjustments to your activity time due to unforeseen disruptions. Choose one or all and discuss what changes you can make if there is some sort of disruption to your ability to be physically active.
Part 4: What routine daily activities do you perform and how can you increase activity into your daily routine? (At least one paragraph. A paragraph is at least 8 sentences.)
In this section you are to identify what daily routines you take part in that are physically active and how you can increase physical activity within these routines.
Part 5: This is the conclusion of your WebQuest. The components of health-related fitness are important indicators into our quality of life. Our fitness level dictates our body's ability to handle each and every aspect of everyday life. An individual who is physically fit will be able to complete life's everyday tasks without the feeling of fatigue. Now that you have taken a look into your active or inactive lifestyle, I would like you to reflect on the following questions (at least two sentences for each question).
Questions to reflect on and include:
1. Why do I enjoy the activities I selected?
2. Are there any activities I would like to try in the future that I have not currently tried?
3. How has this assignment helped me with viewing my lifestyle as an active or inactive individual?
4. What could I change in my life to assist me in becoming more active than I am now?
5. What have I learned about the importance of being active?
