Geoscape Solar Completes High Efficiency Rooftop Solar Power System at Helping The Willow School Achieve World-Class Green Building Certifications– the Largest “Living Building” School Project in the United States

Geoscape Solar Installs 165KW 165-kilowatt SunPower System on Health, Wellness & Nutrition Center; System Expected to Save School the Willow School More Than $2,000,000 Million Over the nNext 30 Years

GladstoneLIVINGSTON, N.ew J. --ersey 4/April 22, 2015 – Geoscape Solar, a SunPower Commercial Partner, has completed the installation of a 165- kilowatt high efficiency SunPower solar power system at The Willow School, an independent coeducational elementary and middle school, in Gladstone, N.J in Gladstone, New Jersey. As a result of the system, The Willow School expects to save more than $2 million in electricity costs over the next 30 years.

The SunPower system is installed on the roof of The Willow School’s new Health, Wellness & Nutrition Center (HWNC), which is being unveiled today in a ceremony at 10 a.m. The school is pursuing certification for the new facility under the Living Building Challenge™, regarded as the world’s most rigorous building performance standard, as well as the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum standard.

“This high efficiency SunPower solar power system will assist The Willow School in securing the green building certifications it is pursuing for the HWNC, as maximizing the amount of clean, renewable solar power generated on site is a key consideration under the Living Building Challenge and LEED programs,” said Jeff Chavkin, president of Geoscape Solar. “We are very proud to be part of such an important project -- one that will serve as a tremendous teaching tool to tomorrow’s leaders.”

In addition to The Willow School’s new Health, Wellness & Nutrition Center is Designed to Meet the Most Rigorous International Green Building Standards and will Represent the Future of Learning for Schoolchildren

The system was designed, engineered, anddesigning and installing the system, installed by Geoscape Solar. In addition, Jeff Chavkin, President of Geoscape Solar, was able to bring also helped the school arrange financing for the project, including a three-year SREC contract, that will allowed for for the system to be totally paid for by the cash flows of the system in under 8 yearsthe system to pay for itself in electricity cost savings in less than eight years, a great opportunity for a nonprofit. This included securing a three year SREC contract.

“Geoscape Solar has been a flexible and knowledgeable partner, providing a creative financing solution and delivering a system that exceeds our environmental and financial goals. They also helped us to re-think our hot water heating system, utilizing Heat Pumps instead of Solar Thermal Panels and a traditional electric hot water tank,” said Mark Biedron, co-founder of the Willow School and president of the New Jersey Board of Education. “The SunPower system from Geoscape Solar will help us achieve our net zero energy goal for the new education center, and will supply 25% of the electricity required for the rest of our campus operations,” said Mark Biedron, co-founder of the Willow School and president of the New Jersey Board of Education. “Geoscape Solar has been a flexible and knowledgeable partner, providing a creative financing solution and delivering a system that exceeds our environmental and financial goals.”

“Geoscape Solar has been a great partner for us as this is a very unique project and has taken a great deal of planning and fortitude to pull it all together. We greatly appreciate their patience, ability and willingness to do what was needed to bring this amazing project to fruition. They were very knowledgeable about technology and actually helped us to re-design our water system, utilizing Heat Pumps instead of Solar Thermal Panels. Geoscape Solar proposed SunPower panels for their high efficiency and guaranteed performance over their lifetime which also allowed them to design a solar system that would help us achieve our goal of a 0% energy footprint in the new education center, while also covering another 25% of the School’s existing usage.”

“We were very concerned about the cost of a solar power system until we met with Geoscape Solar, who brought a very creative financing solution that will help us achieve and actually exceed both the environmental and financial benefits we were hoping for,” said Mark Biedron, Co-founder of the Willow School and President of the New Jersey Board of Education.

The Willow School, an independent coeducational elementary and middle school, will unveil its new Health, Wellness & Nutrition Center (HWNC) at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Earth Day, April 22. The new educational center will is expected to be one of the most environmentally sound and sustainable building projects in the world and will create a model learning environment for student. According to estimates provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency, s. According to estimates provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Theirt the SunPower new solar system on its roof will offset 8,323,000 pounds of cCarbon dDioxide, 14,565 pounds of NOx (a leading cause of smog), 50,770 pounds of SO2 (a leading cause of acid rain). This, which is the equivalent of taking not driving 6,432,334 miles off the road or planting 65,323 trees.!

“By utilizing Geoscape Solar’s financing solution, the Willow School was able to maximize the solar opportunity – creating more value, return on investment, and clean energy than any of our competitors. The more efficient and more reliable Sunpower panel was the only choice for the class A project that is the new education center at the Willow School,” said Jeff Chavkin, President and Co-Founder of Geoscape Solar. “We are very proud to be part of such an important project, one that will serve as a tremendous teaching tool to tomorrow’s leaders.”

“Learning in a Living Building provides an enhanced educational opportunity that is smarter, healthier and better for our students,” said continued Mark Biedron, co-founder of The Willow School. “Studies have shown that green schools broaden the curriculum, increase student engagement and productivity, and improve academic performance. It’s an ideal learning environment.”
