Hello Students,

The President of the United States has asked us to help educators do a better job in preparing students to work in the creative and technical occupations of the future such as science, technology, and engineering. The first important part of our effort is to design our master plan. Rather than taking our time to “re-invent” the wheel, we would like to learn from what others have done in the past and apply that to our planning. This is where we need your help.

Our first step in designing our plan is to look at important inventors to try to identify what kind of climate promoted and supported their creativity. As you know, invention requires creativity and strong abilities to apply important aspects of math and science to solve problems. By looking at what has inspired creativity in the past, we hope to apply those insights to inspire creativity in the future.

I am including a list of some of “The 50 Greatest Breakthroughs Since the Wheel” from The Atlantic magazine from October, 2013 with this letter. I would like you to help me by ranking their included inventions from best to worst in terms of those that have involved or had the purpose the transfer energy. Since The Atlantic already surveyed twelveexperts to form their list, the order of the list is alphabetic so you will not be biased by their rankings. The reason for asking your help to rank the items that experts have already selected is that you provide a different perspective that is more forward thinking than the perspective of older historians and technology experts.

What I really need from you is a ranking of the top breakthroughs involving energy transfer and the procedure that you use to make the rankings. Can you please write me a letter with that information? Include information that tells me how you came up with your decision, and describe your procedure in detail so that we can use it to select more inventions later.

Thank you,

Iam Inventive
