Essential materials
There is a general materials fee of £10 to cover copper, perishables, small replacement items of tools and books. Students to buy silver separately as they require different amounts according to their individual projects and preferences. This could be purchased from or ordered through the tutor.
Course aims:
To extend the skills of those with a basic experience of making copper and silver jewellery. To introduce more advanced techniques and processes and enable increasingly refined and/or complex pieces to be made.
Course description:
Students who have attended the beginners’ class will have the opportunity to extend their skills and be introduced to some more advanced techniques and processes, e.g. stone setting, chain making, wire forming, etching and catches, enabling more complex and or refined pieces to be made.
Any prior knowledge or entry requirements?
A basic experience of making copper and silver jewellery is required, as is the safe and effective use of the basic tools used to solder, saw, form and texture metal. It is preferred that the beginners’ class has been attended.
Course content: what topics will the course cover?
Stone setting, riveting, forging and forming wire, fold forming, etching, fabrication, catches and clasps, soldering skills and colouration of metals.

How will I receive feedback on my learning progress and achievement?
Completion of practical tasks, one to one oral feedback, weekly completion of learning journals and through discussion of and completion of Individual Learning Plans.
Learning outcomes: these are the intended outcomes and may be revised in discussion with the class. Students are encouraged to think about and identify their own individual outcomes.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1.Assess and identify right tool or piece of equipment for a task
2. Select appropriate materials and calculate amounts required for individual projects
3.Demonstrate a technique or process not previously used
4.Complete an original piece of jewellery using existing skills and a new technique and/or process
