Community Outreach Assistant - Role Description

Role Title: Community Outreach Assistant

Reports To: Sports Volunteering & Community Outreach Officer

Hours: 7 per week (flexible depending on schedule)

Duration: 10 weeks, starting October

Wage: Voluntary with benefits (see below)

Role Background:

The emphasis of the placement is to provide fundamental professional development to students who are looking to learn more about local and higher education sport. The successful candidate will ideally have a background in sport and will be passionate about developing community outreach and/or sport at the university.

Role Purpose:

To improve the quality of the community outreach of Sport St. Mary’s by researching local wants and needs of the community as well as programmes offered at other institutions. The successful candidate will also work with a range of internal and external partners to support the delivery of the SIMMSport junior sports programme by gaining feedback from participants and parents.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

·  Conduct an analysis of the local sporting landscape, researching the sports provision of the local area

·  Evaluate the potential of expanding the SIMMSport programme and in which areas

·  Develop and implement methods of gaining feedback for the SIMMSport and holiday camp programmes

·  Research and evaluate sports volunteering programmes at other UK institutions

·  Undertake and assist in any other relevant projects where necessary that the Sports Volunteering & Community Outreach Officer deems appropriate
