JEAN-PIERRE JOUYET

Minister of State for European Affairs, France

Jean-Pierre Jouyet is Minister for European Affairs in France. Since 2005 he is Head of the Service de l’Inspection générale des finances (audit department of the French public services).

He was a lecturer at the Ecole Nationale d’Administration in 1982 and Again since 2006.

From 1996 to 1997 Jean-Pierre Jouyet was lecturer and since 2006 visiting professor at the Paris Institut d’études politiques (IEP). From 2002 to 2004 and since 2006 he is a Member of the Board of Directors of France Télécom. Since 2006 he is also Member of the Board of the ‘Fondation nationale des sciences politiques’.

From 2000 to 2005 he was President of the Paris Club, and in 2005 he was Non-Executive Chairman of the Barclay Bank in France. From 2004 to 2005 he was Ambassador with responsibility for international economic issues at the French Foreign Ministry.

From 2000 to 2004 Jean-Pierre Jouyet was Head of the French Trésor Directorate, Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Industry. From 1997 to 2000 he was Deputy Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. He was a partner in the French business law firm “Jeantet Associés” (Jeantet and Partners) from 1995 to 1997.

From 1991 to 1994 he was Deputy Principal Private Secretary and from 1994 to 1995

Principal Private Secretary to the President of the European Commission.

From 1988 to 1991 he was Principal Private Secretary to the Minister of Industry, Foreign Trade and Town and Country Planning (Regional Development), then to the Minister of bIndustry and Town and Country Planning (Regional Development).

Jean-Pierre Jouyet was Principal at the Service de la législation fiscale (tax legislation department) at the Ministry for the Economy and Finance. He was Director of Studies at the Institut d’études politiques (IEP) at Paris, and Inspecteur des finances (auditor at the French Trésor, with special responsibility for the inspection of public finances) in 1980.

Jean-Piere Jouyet holds the following political functions; Honorary Chairman of the Témoin club since 1999 and Chairman of the club Démocratie since 2000.

He recently published ‘N’enterrez pas la France’ with Philippe Mabille.

Jean-Pierre Jouyet went to the Ecole Nationale d’Administration and was born in 1954.
