- Research Notes
Take notes from threenew sources(possibly the ones on your future research list from Proposal Part 2).
-Format: same as previous, including proper APA citation, use of headings and indentations, etc.
-Highlight information from each sub-topic in a different colour and provide a legend that shows which colour goes with each sub-topic.
-Plagiarism will result in a zero.
Take notes on:
Evidence from the articles that is relevant to your sub-topics and your main argument.
Data (statistics).
Do not useletters, book reviews, editorials or columns.
2.Bias and Reliability of Sources^
For your best source(from the three above), answer in detail:
A) What is the type and intended audience of your source? How do you know? Give examples.
B) Does the information contain any emotionally charged words or phrases? Give examples and justify their use. If no, state an example that characterizes the non-biased nature of the source. (Note: emotion is an undesirable trait in this kind of source.)
C) Is the information factual and reasoned (rationally explained)? Explain and give an example.
D) Are sufficient facts used to support any positions/opinions offered? Explain and give an example. You must directly state which position/opinion the facts are supporting. All articles have a position, even if they are unbiased.
E) What is each author’s background and qualifications? Write in your own words. If the author is unknown, examine the overall reliability of the source (not the database).
F) Have the author’s opinions been carefully documented by using citations and reference lists? If so, which type? (APA, MLA, etc.) If no, why not? Justify using this source if it doesn’t have any references or citations.
^Please note: if the answers to these questions do not demonstrate reliability, you should not be using the source. Stop and find a new one if the source is weak.
3.APA Citations
List the source in proper APA format at the top of each page of your annotations.
Pay attention to DETAIL of the format, including arranging sources and annotations in alphabetical order when you hand them in.
- Articles
Hand in the articles/websites you have taken notes from. Make sure the original publishing information is on each article or website. If they are long, only hand in the first page with all the publishing information on it.
