Job Description

Job Title: Museum Store Assistant

Date Effective: 25 January, 2016

A.  SUPERVISED BY: Site Manager (Imaginarium), Museum Store

Manager, Office Administrator (Grout)

B. POSITION SUMMARY: The Store Assistant is responsible for receiving any individual guests, as well as any scheduled groups; assisting the Store Manager with restocking and inventory of merchandise, and maintaining the appearance of the museum store. They also will help staff in other areas of the museum as needed.

C.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

i.  Receiving of guests:

1.  Welcomes guests to the museum district.

2.  Explains the different options for admission and memberships.

3.  Gives the guest a brief explanation of the building and exhibits.

ii. Assisting Store Manager;

1.  Restocks merchandise as needed.

2.  Checks in and unpacks new merchandise.

3.  Tracks merchandise in POS and researches new merchandise

4.  Performs light cleaning/dusting of merchandise areas.

D.  MARGINAL DUTIES:

i.  Assists other staff when needed:

1.  May be asked to help with small clerical tasks, or programming preparation.

E.  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education, Experience and Training: The minimum formal education of the Store Assistant is a high school diploma or equivalent. One to three years of experience with similar or related responsibilities is highly desired.

2.  Mental Demands: This employee must be a person who pays attention to details, who can work with a wide variety of people, and who is cooperative and flexible to respond to changing priorities.

3.  Basic computer skills including but not limited to Outlook, Word and Excel.

F.  WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment has excellent lighting and ventilation with occasional temperature fluctuations. There are odors when certain programs are conducted or during exhibition construction.

G.  EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS: The Store Assistant must frequently use a computerized point of sales register, telephone, and occasionally small hand tools. A vacuum cleaner may be used on occasion.
