Home Learning Task

AUTUMN

We are continuing to develop new ways of supporting children in their learning which can also strengthen our links with you as parents/carers –to join up learning for your child. Twice in the year we will send home a home learning task. This will allow them to share their experiences from home with an active and engaged audience at nursery. As it is their first home learning task for some, we thought ‘Autumn’ would be an easy place to start as this topic has been discussed and it will be a nice way to continue the work we have been doing in nursery. The process in undertaking this task is as important as the end result.

Over the holiday period you and your child could find out more about autumn – this will be very personalised to your child and can be anything which your child talks about.

As a parent/carer we would like you to fill in the mind map when speaking to your child about the project. Your child has taken part or is beginning to take part in these at nursery and if you ask them the questions included they will give you some information to include. Please write down what they say. It might not always make sense but there may be a link with something we are doing in the nursery.

Some ideas:

·  It may mean going on an autumn walk and talking about what you see

·  It might be making a collection of things you pick up on your walk

·  It might be things you like to do as a family in autumn

·  It might be about your holiday

·  It might be about animals/pets and what they do in autumn

At the end of the holiday (18th October) they can bring in their home learning booklet/poster/collection to nursery and your child will get the opportunity to share this with their Key Worker and group.

Included below are some ideas of what you may want to include in the Home Learning booklet. Your child should know what is included as this will be used to help them talk to their group about their project.

Things you may want to include:

·  Photographs about the topic or from a relevant trip

·  Pictures drawn by your child

·  Pictures cut from magazines/newspapers

·  Information from books

·  Tickets from visits

THIS IS A TASK FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD TO DO TOGETHER

However, this task promotes whole family learning, so please get everyone involved and share the responsibility; brothers, sisters, grans and papas.

There may be skills you need to help them with like cutting out or finding good books about the topic or organising to take them on a trip/visit or a walk outdoors.

Taking forward the CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE for children 3-18 emphasises the importance of making learning REAL for children. This type of project makes the connections from school to home and helps to secure skills which your child is learning about.

Parents are key educators in their child’s life and the project set is an appropriate learning experience which can support children becoming successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.

And finally it should be active and fun and hopefully make children keen to come back to nursery and show us what they have been learning about.

This task is optional. Please do not feel under any pressure to complete if unable to due to other commitments.
