PAW Board Meeting Minutes

Sunday, June 21, 2009, 9:30 a.m.

6500 Facchina Lane, Glenn Dale, MD 20769

In attendance: Dolly Goldfarb, Linda Bren, Chris Lord, Sue Silver, Lori Simmons, Tracy Goldfarb; Absent: Bob Klein, Vicki Korobkin

New Business

Vacant Board Position: Board voted unanimously to offer Volunteer Coordinator (for rest of 2009) to Linda Coleman, if she would accept it.

Media Coordinator (non-Board) Position: Board agreed that Veronica Segovia should be Media Coordinator, as she responded to our request for a “publicity hound.” Vicki Korobkin should talk with her about promoting fundraising events, and Greg Pike too in case he needs help coordinating TV spots.

Cat Program. The cat program continues to need help. Several old cats have been returned that are hard to adopt out or even get a foster. Suggestions were made:

·  If people want to return a cat failing in health because they can’t afford it, we could offer to pay 50% of vet bill

·  Dolly offered to do a flowchart showing the various cat responsibilities to make it easier to fill sub-positions.

·  Lori asked that Sharon’s show email include a note for the dog volunteers to check with the cat volunteers to see if they need help when the cat/dog shows are at same place (Rockville and Laurel).

·  Orientation giver could ask new volunteers to come to the cat shows (they hold 3x a month) to learn about the program.

Online Discussion Group: Vicki Korobkin has asked to start a Yahoo discussion group for interested volunteers to log on and share information on training, food, behavioral issues, etc. The board agreed that she could start it if she had time to moderate it and not allow criticism of shelters, etc.

Finances: Chris provided the Treasurer’s report as of 5/31/09.

General PAW Meeting: It’s time to have a general meeting of all volunteers. Since these meetings have been rather poorly attended in past, consider making the meeting a summer party to attract more volunteers.
