Dear students, host families, liaisons and volunteers.

Below is an invitation for our annual rafting trip. We would love to have as many of you as possible attend but also know that this is and you may have important plans. Pre-registration is necessary for us to plan for food and rafting coordination. We appreciate your help and follow through on or before May 1st.

See you on Sunday, May 1st or in June.

Finger Lakes Team.

You are invited to our Annual AFS Rafting Adventure and Family Picnic.
This year it is on Sunday June 12th at Letchworth State Park.
Rafting:
We gather at 1:00 PM for training and gear and then paddle for about 3 hours. In good weather there is a chance to swim. Cost for rafting and picnic is $15/person and the necessary forms are attached for signatures. We are requesting that you bring your $$ and signed waiver form to our Pre-departure meeting on 5/1/16 if you plan on participating in the rafting event. Checks can be made payable to AFS Finger Lakes Team or cash is accepted as well.

Picnic: Dinner will be served about 5:30 at the Lower Falls Pavilion close by the rafting headquarters. Cost for just the picnic is being paid by AFS. For those not rafting... there is plenty to do in the park and we have a covered pavilion for the afternoon and evening.

Reservations: We’ll need reservations, payment for rafting and picnic and rafting waiver forms received by May 24th at the very latest if you forget to bring them on 5/1/16. We will not be collecting any $$ the day of the event so we have an exact headcount!

To begin, fill out the reservation form below and enclose payment for rafting with reservations for the rafting and /or picnic. We would prefer to have the signed waiver form as well, but you may bring it the day of the rafting event. It is extremely important for us to have an accurate headcount for rafting and food!

Midge Englundwill be at the park prior to your arrival. If you need to get in touch with her contact info is below

Send it to

Midge Englund 2051 County Road 35, Bloomfield, NY 14469 Cell 585-230-6621. Email

Check the recommended clothing list. You very likely will get wet if you raft, so don't take anything in the raft that is not waterproof. From our experience, we would recommend a bathing suit under your clothes and water shoes, as we stop for a little splashing around or swimming, and there are lots of rocks in the river.

We have the largest shelter in the area rented all day. The Lower Falls Shelter is just south of the parking lot and southeast of the rafting HQ.. If you are coming from the Mt. Morris entrance, it's about 14 miles south from that entrance. The whole park is 17 miles long. We hope to have the big AFS sign by our shelter, but we cannot put it on the main road. There are three park entrances, so if you use GPS directions, the official address is: 1 Letchworth State Park, Castile, NY 14427 which is the south entrance to the park. This is actually the closest entrance to where we are going to be. Here is the link from the Letchworth website for directions: . This might be the easiest way for all.

We look forward to a day of excitement & fun! *****Remember it is about another 20-25 minutes to reach the shelter after you entering the park entrance!
