Section 3 – Performance:

A. Dance Routines & Dance Auditions

1. Each member is responsible for learning the routines to be performed.

2. Auditions will be held to determine which members will perform.

3. All members must continuously improve on their dance skills to insure auditions are passed and a performance status is met. Tutorials are offered every morning in the Chato Dance Studio beginning at 6:30am.

4. The Director is a coach and will ALWAYS put the best performers on the field/floor. This includes proper attitude.

5. A member who passes an audition must maintain his/her performance status by continuing to improve on the required dance skill/memory/showmanship/attendance and attitude.

6. All successful auditions are earned by a member continuously doing their “Homework!”

7. Any member may be placed in or pulled out of a performance routine at any time and for any reason deemed necessary by the Director.

II.  Chato Contract

1.  Know all of my routines and positions before the last rehearsal.

2.  Improve all of my dance skills and techniques by practicing on my own and attending AM TUTORIALS.

3.  Audition for every dance routine, even if it is a challenge to me.

III.  Chato Golden Rules

16. ATTENDANCE DURING FOOTBALL SEASON
i. All team members must participate in an audition in front of the Director for the current week’s performance.
b. Each dancer is expected to perform without mistakes.
f. The director has the right to replace any performer at ANY TIME for ANY REASON. The Director is a coach AND WILL ONLY PUT THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD OR PERFORMANCE FLOOR!

18. FOOTBALL SEASON TRYOUTS

A.  Each Chato will audition for all performances.

i.  All members will perform in small groups of 4-8.

ii.  The Director will judge them on performance presentation, memory, execution, clarity, showmanship, technique, placement, flexibility, double turns, attitude and work ethics.

iii. All dance routines have a set number of performers; therefore, positions are limited.

B.  The Director has the right to do call backs if needed.

C.  If you are absent on the day of an audition, you may be allowed to audition the very next day if you return with a doctor’s note from the day you were absent, and if there is an available position.

D.  Results of all auditions will be posted or read allowed by the Director.

E.  The decision of the Director is final for all performance auditions. Therefore, please accept the decision with a smile and keep working hard! Hint: Hard work does pay off!

25. Contest Season

D. All routines are auditioned in front of the Director.

IV.  Vendor’s Night Paper Work

Performance Status/Auditions

EACH CHATO DANCE TEAM MEMBER WILL AUDITION EVERY ROUTINE IN FRONT OF THE DIRECTOR. THE DIRECTOR HAS THE FINAL SAY SO IN WHO PERFORMS. Once a student makes the May auditions it does not mean that they will pass a dancing performance/routine. THE DIRECTOR IS JUST LIKE A COACH AND WILL ONLY PUT THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD, STAGE, CONTEST FLOOR, ETC…

Right & Left Splits and Double Turns

Each performing Chato Dance Team Member will be REQUIRED to do both right and left splits and double turns before they audition for any performance. Failure to be able to complete these specific dance skills, with the required proper technique, will result in a NON-PERFORMANCE STATUS for the Chato Dance Team member.

Both of these requirements will be enforced at all Chato Auditions. This includes in front of outside judges and/or in front of the Director(s) for the Chato year. In addition, both requirements will help to maintain the performance level needed for successful dance technique, skills, flexibility, extension levels and SAFETY/HEALTH. {Please understand that the member must also meet the other necessary requirements needed at every audition to be a performing member – levels, dynamics, showmanship, technique, memory, control, etc…}

**Please Note**

Remember, that being placed on the Chato Dance Team DOES NOT guarantee a performing position. The judges are made aware of the requirements for team performance; moreover, the judges may choose individuals in hopes that he/she will continue to work hard to meet all requirements and skills necessary to perform. It is entirely up to the individual Chato to accomplish and maintain their “homework” requirements necessary for performance/auditions.
