College Search and Research

Big Future is the excellent college search website from the College Board. It also provides lots of useful information (required tests, deadlines) that’s easier to find than on many college websites. There’s a memo about this site in the junior/senior folder

Accredited Schools Online’s helpful site with a nice overview of many aspects of college admissions:

College Confidential has a college search engine, lots of articles and reviews of colleges, which of course are not a scientific sampling:

Testing

Create an account at The College Board site includes registration and information about SATs and Subject Tests as well as a link to Khan Academy’s free test prep. site:

Register for the ACT if you choose to do so instead of the SAT.

a free online ACT practice test. I recommend that you do this and the PSAT to decide which will work better for you.

Financial Aid

TheCollege Planning Center of Rhode Island is a free and excellent resource. It can help with financial aid and scholarship questions, FAFSA completion, college search and anything else on your mind, and the office is staffed with experts:

Cappex is a scholarship site that you usually have to join to use, but to search merit scholarships, go to and scroll to Merit Aid Scholarships Offered by Colleges. There’s a search box there where you can check on merit aid scholarships at any college.
