Family Media Safety Contract – Elementary School

Our family values include honesty, compassion, and family first. Every member of the family understands and agrees that our use of technology must reflect our values. Therefore, we agree to follow the following guidelines, which are in line with our values:

WE WILL KEEP OURSELVES SAFE.

  • I will not share my personal information, including my address, telephone numbers, my parents’ work address or phone number, or the name and location of my school online.
  • I will share my login information with my parents. I will keep my login information written in a safe place at home and will not share my login information with anyone other than parents.
  • I will not upload or download photos, videos, apps, or programs without permission
  • I will never meet someone off-line whom I met online without permission.
  • I will tell my parents or a trusted grown up if anything happens online that makes me feel uncomfortable, sad, or upset in any way.

WE WILL BE GOOD DIGITAL CITIZENS.

  • I will not bully, say mean things, share videos, spread gossip, set up fake profiles, or say cruel or untrue things about people online.
  • I agree not to use technology to cheat in games or on schoolwork
  • I agree to come to my parents or a trusted grownup if I see something that makes me uncomfortable and I don’t understand.

WE WILL KEEP A HEALTHY BALANCE

  • We will work together to set limits on computer, internet, and other technology use.
  • We will set up ‘technology free zones’ and/or ‘technology-free times’ and we will respect these zones by not using phones, electronic games, computers, tablets, or the television.
  • We will follow movie, TV, and game ratings rules unless we have talked about it as a family first
  • We will talk together about new apps, social media sites, programs, and games we are interested in playing.
  • We know that not all information available online is true and not all people I meet online are honest, so if I have questions, I will ask.
  • We will have open discussions about technology use, but I understand that final decisions are made by parents or caregivers.
