Production Houris designed to develop a proficiencyin thehands-on creation of technicaltheatre.Through this class,you will develop ageneralunderstandingof how theatreis produced anddevelopleadership skills to enableyou to producetheatrein theprofessional world.Therearetwoparticipatorymethods toexplorein this class:regularlab workand crewing productions(see pg. 2).

This is alaboratoryclasswheremuch of thelearningtakes place in theclassroom andeachskill and project builds upon a previousone.Youwill only be allotted 2 makeupsfor absencesforthe semester (Fridaysection is allotted one). Thelast day to makeup an absence is April20th. Makeup hoursare at the discretion ofthe shop managers.Tardiness and leavingclassearlyarenot acceptable; ifyou are15 minutes lateit is consideredan absence. Three absenceswillloweryourfinalgrade byoneletter grade.Each subsequent absence will loweryourfinalgrade byone letter. Five absenceswill result in automatic failure. Threetardiesequals one absence.Ifyouarrive to class afterroll is taken, it isyour responsibilityto check in at theend of class to make sureyourattendance is recorded. RunCrewAssignment(15 points for attendance,25 points for attitude and participation,5for crewpreference worksheet)

A runningcrewconsists of allthe individualsworkingon aspecificproductionbackstageandfront of houseinanassigned position.Everystudent enrolled in Production Hourwillberequired to participateononerun creweach semester.Yourcrewassignmentpreferencepage is duebyFriday at the end of the first week of classesbeforemidnight(thecrewpreferenceassignment is submitted on Blackboardandis worth5 points). Latesubmissionswill not be accepted.Ifyou arecast in allproductionsin asemester,you areexcused from this requirementbut will stillneed to hand in a preferenceworksheet. The crewrequirementhas both shop and run time positions to accommodateeveryone.Yourgrade forthis portion ofthe class is evaluated byamultitude ofpeople involved in theproduction,aswellasobservationsbythe instructor. You will begradedonyourattention to thejob responsibilities,promptness in attendingrehearsalsandperformances,communication ofconflicts with appropriate personnel,andattitudetowardsresponsibilities.

CrewAssignmentAttendance Policy:

Absencesforthe Crew Assignments arenot tolerated;you must be presentat all techrehearsals and performances. Arraignments for anyconflicts need to be made andapproved priortothe assignedshow’s techrehearsal. (See CrewPreference Assignment on Blackboardformoreinformation).You cannot have anotherperson do yourcrewassignmentforyou.Unexcusedabsences fromatech rehearsal or a performance willdrop your gradeby one fullgrade.
