9So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
10Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.
11And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
1. Rehoboam was the son of Solomon
a. Solomon: Son of King David; Prayed for Wisdom; Built the temple; Great wealth and riches; Turned away from God….
b. Rehoboam raised in affluence
Affluence does not train great leaders
There is danger in security
No Faith principle with affluence
ADVERSITY produces a Moses, a Joshua, or a David
Affluence produced Rehoboham
2. Nation of Israel is Divided
a. Rehoboam is approached by the tribes of Israel under the leadership of Jeroboam
b. Soloman was a hard, demanding ruler
2 Chronicles 10:4 4“Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you.”
c. Rehoboam met with old men and young men
2 Chronicles 10:14 and he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!”

a. Because of the “Humbling of Rehoboam” God did not allow total destruction of
Jerusalem and Rehoboam
b. Shishak took all the treasurers of the palace and the temple including the SHIELDS OF GOLD that Slolomon had made (2 Chronicles 9:16)
c. 300 shields of 300 shekels each for a total value of $1,200,000.00
4. Shields of Gold Were Replaced WithShields of Brass
a. The Shields represented the protection and presence of God with the Children of Israel.
b. They were replaced with a counterfeit

Brass is not Gold!
c. What a disappointment!
Embarrassing to take friends to the Temple and see Shields of Brass instead of Shields of Gold!
“We Used to have Gold but now we have Brass!”
They had been robbed of the best!

Fasting for Feasting
Meditation for Recreation
Prayer for the Sick for a Medical Trick
Brazen Religion
Brazen Lifestyles
Brazen Worship
Brazen Service & Dedication to God
e. How sad to talk about what we used to be!
Conclusion:
- We should want Gold or Nothing
a. Instead of admitting weakness and humbling ourselves like Rehoboam did, many are polishing brass
b. Many insist on a cheaper brand of Christianity rather than pay the price and recover the Shields of Gold.
c. In our Nation, our Churches, and Homes we are making Rehoboam’s decisions and mistakes.
d. We have allowed the enemy to come in and take down our Shields of Gold and we have replaced them with a counterfeit
e. We need the Genuine - the Real - the True - the Whole - The Complete - the Unchanging…..
