College of Education Emergency Grant Fund

Purpose: The purpose of the Emergency Grant Fund is to provide financial assistance to College of Education students who have encountered a sudden, unforeseen catastrophic life event that causes a dire financial burden on a student’s ability to maintain adequate academic progress.

Limits: A student may receive only one emergency grant. A grant may exceed the $1,000 maximum award in extraordinary cases at the discretion of the COE Scholarship Committee. Funding is dependent on available balance in the spending account.

Eligibility:

  • Student must be currently admitted to an academic program in the College of Education
  • Student must have encountered a sudden, unforeseen, catastrophic life event thatcauses a dire financial burden on their ability to maintain adequate academic progress
  • Student must be making, and intend to continue making, adequate academic progressat the time of their request

Application Procedures: A student seeking an emergency grant must:

  • Submit Emergency Grant Request form as specified above to
  • Submit unofficial UNM transcript
  • Contact their Faculty member for support email
  • Submit all required information to

Checklists:

  • ___I have requested a letter of certification from a faculty member who certifies the student is making adequate academic progress and that the student’s academic plan for the semester in question represents adequate academic progress. In addition, the faculty needs to specify any unique program requirements, selection criteria or course offerings as well as the student’s current enrollment status and course attendance.

1. Please describe the emergency (an emergency is a sudden, unforeseen, and catastrophic life event) you have encountered and how it has impacted you financially.

2. Please state how the Emergency Grant will make a difference in this situation. Specify the exact amount of funding that you are requesting to assist you in continuing your academic pursuits and other means that you are taking to receive financial assistance. Specify what the funds will be used for and if the grant funds would impact any financial aid or other funding that you may have received for the academic year.

3. Please state your plan of study for the semester to which the grant is to be applied and how the emergency has impacted your ability to complete your plan of study.
