DAILY BINDER
Each student will be required to have a notebook for daily in-class work and notes. This notebook will be a three ring binder. It will contain daily notes, warm-up exercises, in-class activities, homework, and any handouts for the class. You will use this notebook every day, and it must be brought to class. Points for this notebook will be given once a week for bringing this notebook and having all the materials required in the notebook. It is very important to be organized in math class, and this notebook will help with that.
HOMEWORK
Algebra 1 requires homework each night. Class participation is needed to be successful. Often you will be given class time for class work which is expected each day Homwork will be given at the end of the period a FEW problems. One half to 2/3 or the homework will be review and the rest will be the new lesson taught that day. You will have one day to complete all homework assignments. Late work will not be accepted; no questions asked. Homework will be checkedeveryday. It will either be collected and corrected, spot checked for completion. Once a week we will have a homework assessment. You will be able to use your homework and that is it. I will ask you to do around 5 problems directly from your weeks assignments. We will correct these and points will be given for how many you got right. You must have your homework done for the week before this because you will not know which problems I will choose for the assessment until the day it is given. Even though we will only have one homework assessment a week homework will ALWAYS be due the next day after it is assigned. I don’t assign a lot of homework so the problems I do assign are very important. All assignments will be posted on the white board on Monday for the week for each class, so if you have to be gone sometime during the week, you will already know what your assignment is.

In class work and activities are a must if I give you time in class it will be graded and is expected to be competed. I don’t give much homework so these engaging activities are super important.
Homework points are earned as follows: When checking for completion
5 points Every problem completed or attempted with work shown NOT LATE
4 points More than ¾ completed or attempted with work shown NOT LATE
3 points Less than ¾ completed but more than half with work shown NOT LATE l
2 Points Less than ½ done with work shown NOT LATE

1 Point Less than ¼ done with work shown NOT LATE

0 Points Not completed at all or late

MAKE-UP WORK
Making up missing assignments, quizzes, or tests are your responsibility. If you are absent, you need to check the class assignment board for what you missed and complete the work. On Monday of each week, the assignments and the day the quiz or test for the week is scheduled. Possible times to make-up quizzes are before school, after school, or during a different class period that you have free. It is also possible to take a quiz or test ahead of the scheduled time. Make-up quizzes and tests will not be given for an un-excused absence.
GRADES
Grades are determined by unit tests, the final exam, quizzes (announced and pop-quizzes), homework, class participation and notebook checks. The grading scale is as follows.
93 -100% A 87- 89 % B+77 –79 % C+ 67 – 69 % D+
90.0 - 92.9 A- 83-86 B 73 -76 C 63 - 66 D
80 - 82 B- 70 - 72 C- 0 - 59.9 Fail

ATTENDANCE
Mathematics is like building a house; you must have a good foundation before you can start. Each day is the foundation for what is going to be learned the next day.Because of this attendance is crucial to learning the material. If you know you will be absent (extra-curricular, family, appointments, etc.) please let me know and try to get assignments and materials before leaving. Remember, make-up work and instruction is your responsibility after being absent!

TARDIES/Passes
Each quarter you will be give three all-purpose passes. They may be used for a bathroom break, drink, or going to locker to get your things. They also WILL BE used if you are tardy. These passes may also be used for daily homework assignment worth five points. At the end of each quarter if you have any passes left you may hand them in for five points apiece for extra credit. USE YOUR PASSES WISELY!! They can help your grade at the end of the quarter. If you are out of passes…

Tardies will be assigned if students are not in the classroom when the bell rings or if they have to leave the classroom to get materials when class is starting! Arriving in class and then asking permission to leave the room does not excuse you from being marked tardy. You are expected to be ready for class when the bell rings! The tardy policy is in the handbook and will be followed.
EXTRA HELP
I am always available for extra help!!! It is okay if you need extra help, all you have to do is ask. I am available before school, during lunch, and after school when I am not coaching. It is my job to help you learn mathematics, and if you don’t ask for help if needed, you are not respecting your ability to learn. If you do not get help early, you will become frustrated and discouraged. Do NOT wait until the night before a test or the last few weeks of the quarter to rescue your grade. I love math and understand it is difficult for some of you; that is okay I will help you gain the skills and confidence to succeed. All you have to do is ask.
I believe that anyone can be successful in mathematics. Success is measured at different levels. Math is 50% ability and 50% confidence, and it is my job to make sure you feel confident even if you are not the best math student. I WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED if you put in the effort needed, come to class prepared, do your homework, and get extra help when needed- YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL in GOODY’S MATH CLASS!!

I am so excited to be here at Helena Capital. My husband and I chose Helena because it is a great town to raise a family, and we are the BEST SCHOOL DISTRICT. LET’S HAVE A GREAT YEAR!! GO BRUINS!!!
