MacDONALD, John I. "Jock" - 87, Sunny Brae, Pictou Co., died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born and raised in Sunny Brae, he was a son of the late John Irving and Jessie (Chisholm) MacDonald. He was a resident of Sunnybrae all of his life where he was a faithful Elder and treasurer of the former Sunnybrae United Church for many years, as well as a member of the Sunnybrae IOOF Lodge. He was a member of the Bridgeville United Church. He served with the Airforce during the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hopewell. He worked at Reid's Store in Sunnybrae and served as the Postmaster in Sunnybrae for 18 years. He loved to garden and his greatest pleasure were his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Muriel Cameron, Sunnybrae; daughter, Jane (George) Mason, Abercrombie; son, Barry (Elizabeth), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Angela, Adam and Ashley Mason, Diane and Emily MacDonald; sister, Jessie Johnson, Pictou; brothers, Earle (Gretchen) MacDonald, Dartmouth; Robert (Joan) MacDonald, Hopewell; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Rose; sister, Madeline Russell. His remains will rest in H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Bridgeville United Church, Bridgeville, Rev. Norman Marple officiating. Burial will be in Sunnybrae Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jock may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Bridgeville United Church.

OBIT # 7002 – EVENING NEWS – 9 March 2005 Alma –Samuel Falconer MacDonald, Alma, Pictou County, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Valley View Villa, Riverton, in his 92nd year. Born in Alma, he was a son of the late Falconer and Christena (Fraser) MacDonald. Sam lived in Alma his entire life. He operated a service station in Alma for many years and later worked at Hawker Siddeley Limited, Trenton, from where he retired. He was a member of the Greenhill-Alma United Church. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travellers. He is survived by daughters, June (Bob) Rosborough and Barbara (Frank) Murray, Lower Sackville; three grandchildren: Larry (Susan) Rosborough, Bridgewater; Brian Rosborough, Toronto; and Troy (Nicole) Murray, Sault St. Marie, Ont.; and two great-grandsons, Jake and Luke Rosborough, Bridgewater. He is also survived by a brother, Alexander, New Glasgow, and a sister, Harriot Matthews, Hamilton, Ont. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola (Darroch) MacDonald; brothers: Charles, Geddes, John P., and James; and sisters: Marion Hillier, Helen Anderson, Jean MacDonald and Bessie Grice.

Visitations will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Friday from the Greenhill-Alma United Church, Alma, with Rev. Jeanne Stright officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to Greenhill-Alma United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.

New Glasgow- Wilfred Lewis(Fred) Hould, North Provost Street, died Sunday in the Aberdeen Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in 1901, he is a son of the late Alphonse and Mary(Divineau)(should say Hould here?) of Brunington, Vt. He came to New Glasgow 40 years ago and was a display man at the Goodman Company Ltd. He had been a choir director of Our Lady of Lourdes Church for 32 years, retiring approximately four years ago because of ill health. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.Surviving is his wife, the former Ann Elizabeth Bubar, New Glasgow; two sons: Barrie, Moncton; Paul, at home; two daughters: Lee Ann (Mrs. John A. Hartnett), Lower Sackville; Shan (Mrs. Evan Walder), Montreal; and seven grandchildren. Also aurviving are two brothers, Ernest and Augustin and a sister Mary, all of Montreal. The remains are resting at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

OBIT # 7004 – UNKNOWN PAPER – 7 MAY 1971

Mount Thom- William J. Howe, 80, died at an early hour this Friday morning in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in Brunswick, Germany, he came to Canada in 1912. For over 30 years, Mr. Howe operated a store in Stellarton. He moved to Mount Thom (looks like 11) years ago when he retired.Surviving are a son William, Mount Thom; and one sister, Mrs. Lily VonSchuckman, Germany. His wife, the former Alta Sinclair, of Westville, predeceased him. The remains are resting at the Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Visiting hours will be after 8 o'clock this evening. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

OBIT # 7005 – 14 MARCH 1960

Stellarton- Emile A. Hudry, Foord St., passed away Sunday in the Aberdeen Hospital after an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Hudry was a well known, highly respected citizen, who came here in 1911 from his native France, where he was born in Paris. Retired three years ago, he had worked as a miner in Joggins,

Springhill, Thorburn and Stellarton. He was a member of Christ Anglican Church. He is survived by his widow, the former Leonie Prevost; one son, Joseph, Stellarton, and one stepdaughter, Florence (Mrs. Joseph MacGillivary), Halifax. A son Edward, predeceased him in 1935.(*Died at 14 1/2 years old.) The remains are resting at the home and the funeral will be held at 2:30p.m. on Tuesday, from Christ Church, with Rev. A.E. Kingsbury officiating. (*From son Joseph I learned that Emile's father was Joseph Francis. Emile's wife Leonie was married (1) to Alfred Caulier to whom she had three children; Mary, Fred and Florence and two children with Emile: Joseph and Edward.Leonie died 16 September 1960.

Pictou- Mrs. Earl F. Huggan, 69, 128 Faulkland St., died Saturday in the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital. Born in New Harbour, the former Lucy Rose Horton, she was the daughter of the late Hegekiah and Sara Jane (Luddington) Horton. She was a member of Pictou United Church. Surviving are two daughters: Muriel (Mrs. Gordon Hatcher), Montreal, Que., Olive (Mrs. Basil Hiltz), Lyons Brook; two sons: Reginald, Montreal and George, New Glasgow; 18 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Gracie (Mrs. Kerr Arthur), New Glasgow; Mrs. Gertrude Henderson, Halifax; and one brother, Fulton, New Glasgow. The remains are resting at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from Trinity United Church, New Glasgow. Interment will be in Merigomish cemetery.

CURRIE, Ethel Virginia - 80, Glen Haven Manor and formerly of Forbes Street, New Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in the manor. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late David Carey and Eva Randall (Fraser) Currie. She worked as a clerk at Zellers for many years. She was a member of First United Baptist Church New Glasgow, where she was involved with Theo Dunn, Bible Class, choir and badminton. She is survived by sisters, Doris White and Elizabeth Simpson, both of New Glasgow; brothers, Donald (Elsie)Currie, Ivan (Marcia) Currie, both of Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Evelyn Marguerite, Laura Jean, Eva Noreen, Isabel Louise; brothers, James and Neil. Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Leo Fletcher officiating. Interment in Brookside Cemetery at a later date. HOOPER, Captain Robert Frothingham "Bob" - 91, Glen Haven Manor, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Monday, March 7, 2005, in the manor. Born in New York, he was the son of the late Elmer and Alice (Wentworth) Hooper. He was a retired Captain from the United States Navy Medical Service Corps with many commendations. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Langille (Fullerton), New Glasgow; daughter, Jean Morgan Hunt, Vancouver, B.C.; son, Robert F. Jr. "Bobby" (Susan), Honolulu; grandson, Justin Morgan; stepdaughter, Rosealee Langille, New Glasgow; stepsons, Wayne (Janice) Langille, Port Hood; Colin, Montreal; Greg (Sandy), Lawrencetown; Jeff (Faye), Hunter River, P.E.I.; stepgrandchildren, Gina, Mark, Morgan, Gavin, Lora, and Leeanne; step great-grandchildren, Kendra and Luke. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Gertrude Anne Hillier; sisters, Louise Hooper and Helen Parrish. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Interment in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. JOHNSTONE, Doris - 67, Picken Street, Westville, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at her home with her family by her side. Born in Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late Angus and Florence (Currie) Pettipas. Doris was past President of the Ladies Auxilliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 35 and a present member of Stellarton Legion. She also belonged to the Pictou County Arts and Crafts. Doris enjoyed many years as a foster mom and enjoyed the company of her friends, too numerous to mention. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Peter; children, Vivian Lynds (Richard), April MacInnis (Terry) and Barry (Arlene), all of Westville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; many foster children. Also loved dearly by sisters, Angelite Kellock (Ross), Stellarton; Mary Kellock (Herdie), East Truro; Gretta Fraser (Bernie Murphy), Ottawa; Kathaleen Coleman (John) and Sherri Lockhart (Jim), both of Truro; brothers, Bill (Chris), London, Ont.; Raymond (Carol), Gairloch; Wilfred (Diane), Ottawa. Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by an infant brother, Freddie. Visitations will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, in Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Bill Burke officiating. Cremation will follow. Interment will be in Lourdes Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit in the Aberdeen Hospital would be appreciated. Doris will be sadly missed by all. "They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them and an entire lifetime to forget them".

KOSZKULICS, Robert James "Bob" - 65, Little Harbour, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at home. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James and Alice (Clarke) Koszkulics. He was a resident of Little Harbour most of his life, where he was a member of the Little Harbour Presbyterian Church, where he served on the board of managers. Bob was a well-known Fuel Oil Distributor for some 38 years in the Pictou County area as well as a lobster fisherman. He was president of the Church Brook Cemetery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Juanita Beach, Little Harbour; sons, Robert, Little Harbour; Mark, Little Harbour; J.D. (Amanda), Little Harbour; daughters, Karen (Robert) Cameron, Little Harbour; Sandra Koszkulics, Little Harbour; grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Rebecca and Justin; brothers, Donnie (Margie), Little Harbour; George (Elizabeth), Little Harbour; sister, Eileen (Jack) Bowles, New Glasgow; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. His remains will rest in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Little Harbour Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joanne Vines officiating. Burial will be in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour. Family flowers only. MacINNIS, Daniel John "Dan" - 42, Old Gairloch Road, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at home. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Daniel Francis "Ted" and Marjorie Elaine (Fraser) MacInnis. He was employed with the produce department of Sobeys for many years. He was an avid sports fan especially the Montreal Canadians. He was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by common-law wife, Jackie Boutlier; sons, Brandon and Jake, at home; twin sister, Debbie (Gregor) MacLean, New Glasgow; sister, Jeanne Richards, Sylvester; brothers, Jerry (Donna) Fraser, Trenton; David "Bo" (Sherri), New Glasgow; Greg "Huck" (Cheryl), Millstream; Joe (Tracey), Sydney Mines. Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. SAPIER, Joseph Frederick "Fred" - 81, Veterans Unit, Pictou, formerly of Pictou Landing First Nations and Indian Island, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in the Veterans Unit, Pictou. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Louis Frank and Elizabeth (Prosper) Sapier. He was a resident of Pictou Landing First Nations the past four years, having previously resided on Indian Island since 1968. He was a resident of England for some 24 years before moving to Indian Island. While in England, he served with the Merchant Marines for a number of years. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Turner, Pictou Landing First Nations; son, Michael Bennett, England; stepdaughters, Dorothy Markides, England; Valerie Pickvance, England; six grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, John Henry Sapier; nephew, John Albert Sapier; niece, Laurie Downs. His remains will rest in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nations, with Father Robert Day officiating. Burial will be on Indian Island at a later date.

WHIDDEN, Barbara Christine "Barb" - 82, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Marsh Street, New Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in the Manor. Born in Glenelg, she was a daughter of the late Alden Hugh and Margaret Jean (Sutherland) Whidden. Prior to retirement, she had been a secretary for various businesses in New Glasgow. She was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, and a past Nobel Grand of Southern Cross Rebekah Lodge No. 3, Stellarton. Barbara enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Surviving are sister, Mary Bowes, Dartmouth; brothers, Hugh, Little Harbour; Homer, Calgary; Kenneth (Barb), Cleveland, Ohio; Harold (Wanda), Fraser's Mountain; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Ann; special friend, Theodore MacDonald. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 12-1 p.m. Saturday, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. with Ms. Lori Crocker, Diaconal Minister, officiating. Interment of ashes will be in Woodburn Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

New Glasgow- John Edward Hunt died Thursday evening at the Marshall Apartments on Trenton Road. The remains are resting at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home and the funeral will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. from the Angus Funeral Chapel with burial in Brookside Cemetery. (*Capt. John E. Hunt was born in 1894 and served with the Pictou Highlanders.)

Stellarton- The funeral of Mrs. Mildred C. Inglis, wife of Alex Inglis, Lucknow, Ont., was held from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church there on June 29. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Father Cassono and interment was in Greenhill cemetery. The pallbearers were Thomas McLaren, Roderick, John, David Inglis, and Robert Adams. Mrs. Inglis was a member of the Catholic Women's League and the Lucknow Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion. She was a native of Stellarton and was the former Mildred C. MacNeil, a daughter of Mrs. Angus P. MacNeil, Hudson St., and the late Angus MacNeil.

New Glasgow- Mrs. Laura Jackson, 173 Westville Road, died at the Aberdeen Hospital early this morning. Born in Westville in 1915, she moved to New Glasgow at an early age. She was the daughter of Mrs. Margaret(Priest) and the late James William MacLean. Besides her mother she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Elaine Yorke, New Glasgow; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Munroe, New Glasgow; and Mrs. Pauline Ward, Toronto. The remains will rest at the Ross Funeral Home, MacDonald St., after 7 o'clock this evening. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held from the Ross Funeral Chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m.. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery, Stellarton.
