KAINAI BOARD OF EDUCATION

MANDATE:

The Kainai Board of Education will award a total of 20 scholarships to enrolled Grade 12 Blood Tribe member students on an annual basis. Ten (10) Scholarships will be provided on Academic Achievement and another ten (10) based on outstanding Athletic Achievement.

OBJECTIVE:

To recognize and assist students who are seriously developing their academic/ athletic skills and serving as positive role models to other youth. The scholarships are intended to assist with the high cost of specialized training and equipment relating to their aspired field of endeavors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The qualifications for both Academic and Athletic Scholarships are as follows:

1. Must be a Blood Tribe enrolled member.

2. Enrolled in High School Grade 12 (if 2nd year grade 12 must not have received scholarship previously).

3. Maintained an average school attendance of 90% (letter by principal to confirm).

4. For Academics, must have maintained a school achievement average of 80%.

5. For Athletics, must have at least 70% school achievement average and active participant in school sponsored sports program (letter from coach to confirm participation in school sport).

6. Must have obtained Blackfoot 10 or an equivalent.

7. Must be willing to attend school/ community functions as a role model.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The Scholarship applications reviewed will determine the successful candidates based on submitted materials following stringent conditions. Those students who maintained a high attendance standard and those who maintained high achievement marks and/or demonstrated exceptional sports abilities and talents will receive greater consideration. Please note the successful applicants will be notified no later than September 30 the following SY.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

1. Obtain application forms from the Kainai Board of Education office, website, and your school counselors.

2. All applications must be submitted and accompanied by an attached cover letter.

3. Attached two (2) letters of recommendation from appropriate individuals. (ie. Teacher, Coach, Counselor, and Principal)

4. Attendance and Academic standings to be verified by the Principal/Assistant Principal or School Counselor of attended school.

5. Current Transcript copies are required for verification of academic standing.

6. The Deadline date is June 30 of each school year.
